Huddersfield Town vs West Brom Prediction, Tips & Stats

Huddersfield Town Football Club is poised to welcome West Bromwich Albion Football Club to the John Smith's Stadium this Sunday, March 10th, 2024, in a fixture carrying significant weight for both teams' aspirations in the EFL Championship.

The home side are currently sitting in 21st position in the Championship table after gaining 38 points from their 36 league outings so far this campaign. Huddersfield are very much embroiled in a relegation scrap and they are currently just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

The Terriers come into this weekend on the back of a mixed run of form which has seen them record two wins, two defeats and one draw from their last five league outings.

In their last match, Huddersfield were defeated 1-0 against Cardiff City. Famara Diedhiou, in his first Cardiff goal, capitalised on a flowing move in the 29th minute. Huddersfield pressed for an equaliser in the second half but Cardiff's defence held firm. The win extends Cardiff's streak to three and lifts them closer to the playoffs, while Huddersfield remain precariously above the relegation zone.

West Brom are vying for promotion to the Premier League and currently find themselves in 5th position in the league table. The Baggies have gained 60 points from their 36 league games however the playoff looks like the only way that they will gain promotion to the premier league as they are 18 points behind automatic promotion.

The away side come into this weekend’s game on the back of a good run of form which has seen them go four games in the league without a loss. This run has included vital wins against Coventry and Plymouth.

The Baggies were held to a frustrating draw against QPR when they were last in action. The Baggies twice came from behind after a lively opening goal from QPR's Montero. West Brom's Murphy equalised before the break, and Hemed converted a penalty in the 75th minute. However, QPR secured a share of the spoils thanks to a dramatic late fightback.

The fixture of Huddersfield Town vs West Brom has a long and storied history, with the two slides having first met in 1910 in the League Division Two. In total, the two sides have faced each other on 78 occasions, with Huddersfield having the better head to head record having won 32 games, compared to 27 which have been won by West Brom.

It was Huddersfield who recorded a slender 2-1 victory when these two sides faced each other earlier on in the season in the reverse fixture. Summer signing Delano Burgzorg capped his first start in English football with his opening goal for Huddersfield, with Jack Rudoni netting deep into added time to secure a win after a West Brom equaliser.

Unsurprisingly, considering the respective league positions of these sides, it is West Brom who are currently favoured to win this match and are priced @ 6/4, whilst a home win for Huddersfield Town is priced @ 15/8 and a draw is @ 11/5.

We are backing West Brom to win and both teams to score as this is often a fixture which results in both teams scoring. This outcome has happened in three of the last four meetings between the two sides.
