The meeting all Championship fans have been waiting for takes place on Boxing Day, as Ipswich Town host Leicester City in a top-of-the-table clash. Unfortunately for the hosts, their recent record against the Foxes isn’t ideal, losing four of the last five.
Ipswich Town
Ipswich have been unbelievable this season, however, over the last two months, they’ve had a couple small blips in form. Nevertheless, the Tractor Boys sit in second place with 52 points, winning 16 of their 23 matches and only losing three times.
Kieran McKenna’s side have been frightening going forward, and they’ve scored the joint most goals in the league, 47. However, their only downfall is that they do tend to concede, shipping an average of 1.39 per game.
This was on display last time out, as they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to third-place Leeds. Ipswich never got going, were 4-0 down by the hour mark, and only had two shots at goal all game!
Leicester
Leicester look guaranteed to return to the Premier League already, and they have simply been unstoppable. The Foxes lead the way in the Championship with 58 points, winning 19 of their 23 matches.
Not only are they the joint top scorers in the division, scoring 47 goals, but they’ve also conceded the fewest, 16 goals, which equates to 0.7 per game.
Last time out, Leicester won their fifth game in a row, as they defeated Rotherham 3-0. Patson Daka scored on the hour mark to open the scoring, and he had a brace five minutes later. Another simple, convincing victory.
Verdict?
Ipswich have won nine of their 11 home matches this season and only lost once. Leicester have the exact same record, but on the road. This game will be full of action, goals, and quality, but given the Foxes form, they should edge it.
The final prediction is Ipswich 1-2 Leicester.
