Ipswich Town vs Middlesbrough Preview, Tips & Stats

Portman Road welcomes Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough this Saturday in the Championship. Ipswich look to take the top spot on the Championship table, whereas Middlesbrough need a win to start to reel in a spot in the Play-offs.

Ipswich currently sit second in the Championship after 42 games. The Tractor Boys have 26 wins, ten draws and six losses, leaving them on 88 points, equal with Leicester at the top of the table.

In their last five games in all competitions, Ipswich have three wins, one draw and one loss.

The visit from relegation candidates Sheffield Wednesday saw Ipswich amongst the goals. Braces from Omari Hutchinson and Ali Al-Hamadi along with goals from Cameron Burgess and Nathan Broadhead gave Ipswich the 6 - 0 win, with Sheffield Wednesday unable to register a single shot on target. Conor Chapin scored the only goal of the game in the ninth minute to give Ipswich the 1 - 0 win over Blackburn Rovers, despite having less of the possession.

Ipswich opened the scoring early against Southampton with Leif Davis finding the back of the net in the 13th minute but Che Adams equalised for The Saints just a minute later. Adam Armstrong also scored to give Southampton the 2 - 1 lead before halftime, but in the second half Broadhead and Jeremy Sarmiento both scored to give Ipswich the 3 - 2 win, with James Bree sent off late on for Southampton. Norwich handed Ipswich a big loss the next time out as Marcelino Nunez scored the only goal of the game in the 1 - 0 loss for Ipswich.

The last time out for Ipswich was against Watford. Even with 15 shots and more of the possession, Ipswich were unable to find the back of the net in a 0 - 0 draw.

Middlesbrough sit just below Ipswich in ninth in the Championship. In 42 games, Boro have 18 wins, eight draws and 16 losses which leaves them on 62 points, six points from the Play-offs.

In their last five games in all competitions, Middlesbrough have two wins and three draws.

The visit from Blackburn Rovers saw Middlesbrough register 18 shots. However, only three of those were on target and Boro were unable to convert any of them in the 0 - 0 draw. Armstrong opened the scoring for Southampton in the 12th minute to give The Saints the lead at halftime. Southampton held onto this lead all the way until the 90th minute when Emmanuel Latte Lath found the back of the net to rescue a 1 - 1 draw for Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough were back to winning ways against Sheffield Wednesday. An own goal from Michael Ihiekwe in the first half and a goal from Isaiah Jones in the second half gave Middlesbrough the 2 - 0 win over The Owls. Boro picked up another 2 - 0 win, this time against Swansea. Latte Lath scored in the added time of the first half and then grabbed another in the 79th minute to give Middlesbrough the 2 - 0 win.

The most recent outing for Middlesbrough was against Hull City. Latte Lath opened the scoring early for Boro in the fourth minute but goals from Jaden Philogene and Jean Michael Seri gave Hull the lead at halftime. However, Finn Isaac Azaz scored late on to grab a 2 - 2 draw for Middlesbrough.

Ipswich and Middlesbrough have met 71 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 1954. The Tractor Boys have the better record in the fixture with 32 wins in comparison to Middlesbrough’s 23 wins, the other 16 games ended in a share of the points.
