The title-chasing Tractor Boys host Norwich City in the first East Anglian derby of the season at Portman Road. The ‘old farm’ derby is anticipated to be a ferociously contested match which the Canaries haven’t tasted defeat since 2009 against their bitter rivals.
Times have changed since then and Ipswich are red hot favourites to plough through their Norfolk enemies after a blistering start to the season. Since their promotion from League One, the Suffolk side have taken to Championship life like ducks to water and have amassed a staggering 51 points from their 21 league games.
Ipswich have only lost twice all season and have won their last four games, including the recent 1-2 victory over an in-form Watford side at Vicarage Road which opened up a 10-point gap over nearest rivals Leeds United.
Kieran McKenna looks to have a healthy bill of players at his disposal for the clash this Saturday, with only midfielder Lee Evans ruled out as a long-term absentee. Ex-Norwich loanee Brandon Williams may face his former side as he returned from Injury on Tuesday against Watford.
Meanwhile, the Canaries have lost six of their last nine away from home, so the last thing they want is to see defeat at Portman Road. Only Leeds United have been triumphant at Portman Road this calendar year.
Despite Norwich languishing in mid-table, they’ve only lost one in their last six games, most recently defeating Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 on home soil which will give them a glimmer of confidence heading into the game.
David Wagner has been under intense pressure in recent weeks, the slight upturn in form means the Canaries only sit three points off the play-off places and can close the gap with victory over their arch-rivals.
City have a welcome boost of the returning Ashley Barnes, whose experience may prove vital in unlocking the Ipswich defence. He bagged himself a goal alongside promising youngster Jonathan Rowe in the victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
