Elland Road is the venue for a pivotal Championship clash on Sunday afternoon as Leeds United are set to host Preston North End in a match that is set to kick off at 12:00.
Following an impressive first half of their campaign, Leeds are currently occupying the 4th position in the table. Daniel Farke’s side have gained 51 points from their 27 league games so far this season and are just seven points behind the automatic promotion places.
Leeds come into this weekend on the back of a good run of form which has seen them win their past three games in all competitions. Following disappointing defeats to Preston and West Brom, the Whites have reacted well and secured victories over Birmingham, peterborough and Cardiff without conceding.
Preston currently find themselves in 12th position in the Championship table after amassing 38 points from their 27 league games so far this campaign. In what is a very congested Championship table, Preston are only two points behind the playoff places.
Ryan Lowe’s side come into this weekend’s game on the back of an inconsistent run of form which has seen the Lillywhites win three and lose four of their last seven league games. Preston were also defeated comfortably by Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup.
Last weekend, Preston recorded a comfortable victory against Bristol City thanks to a Will Keane brace in the second half. Despite having less possession and shots than Bristol, Keane’s brace in the second period was enough to see the Lillywhites overtake Bristol in the table.
The fixture of Leeds vs Preston has a long and storied history, with the two sides first having met in 1924, a game which Leeds won 4-0. In total, these two sides have met on 62 occasions, with Leeds having won 22, there having been 14 draws and Preston having won 26.
These sides met just three weeks ago in the reverse fixture, where Preston recorded an unlikely victory. The game exploded into life after the break when Illan Meslier's red card for Leeds swung the momentum towards the home side.
Alan Browne headed Preston into the lead just two minutes later, before Liam Millar's late strike secured the victory despite Pascal Struijk's penalty equaliser for Leeds as the game finished 2-1.
Unsurprisingly, it is Leeds who are heavily favoured at the bookies ahead of this matchup and they are currently priced @ 2/7, whilst a surprise away win for Preston is priced @ 19/2 and a draw is @ 9/2.
We are backing Leeds to win 2-1 as they come into this game with the better form and the home support. We expect both sides to score as this is a fixture which often results in this outcome with this occurring in all three of the past meetings between the two sides.
