Reading vs. Wigan Prediction, Tips & Stats

We have a relegation six pointer in the Championship this weekend as two sides in the bottom three lock horns with Reading facing Wigan Athletic.

Reading currently sit 22nd in the Championship with thirteen wins, ten draws and twenty-one losses from forty-four games this season.

The Royals have had a frankly horrendous campaign and if you’d have told Reading fans that they’d be facing the prospect of relegation back in September they’d have laughed in your face given they were flying high in the top three.

However, Reading have capitulated and their chances of survival do not look good as they enter this game winless in their last five matches having drawn three and lost two of them.

Most recently, Reading fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Coventry City, a result that put one foot in League One.

Their form at home isn’t particularly impressive either, with Reading failing to win any of their last five on home soil having drawn four and lost one of them.

In fairness, many of those games have been against promotion contenders and they’ve avoided defeat against 1st place Burnley and 3rd place Luton so there is cause for optimism.

Reading are currently one point shy of safety having played a game more than the three sides above them so they’re in for a nervy finish. They need positive results form their last two games and hope other results go their way so it’s bound to be a stressful couple of weeks for fans of The Royals.

Wigan Athletic currently sit rock bottom of the Championship with ten wins, thirteen draws and twenty-one losses from forty-four games this season.

The Latics have had a miserable campaign having spent almost its entirety in the relegation zone, but they’re now trying perform an unlikely great escape ask they enter this game in decent form.

The Tics are coming into this game having won their last two on the bounce, the most recent of which was a 2-1 win over Millwall.

The win over the play-off chasers followed a 1-0 victory away at Stoke City the last time out in a pair of results that have given them a fighting chance of survival.

Wigan were beaten 0-1 by Reading when the two sides met back in September but Reading have declined significantly since that meeting so Wigan will be much more confident of claiming a positive result this time around.

Wigan are four points shy of safety having played a game more than the three nearest sides outside of the relegation zone so in reality they need to win both of their final fixtures to stand a chance of survival.

It’s an outside chance but it’s far from impossible, and this one is very winnable for The Tics.

For our Reading vs. Wigan prediction, we’re going for a 1-1 draw.
