Bristol City are aiming to leapfrog deeper into the top half of the Championship table when they head to Hillsborough this weekend to meet with a Sheffield Wednesday side still in the bottom three despite a fantastic win last time out.
Wednesday recorded no doubt their best win of the season last Saturday by winning at The Den against Millwall and bringing the Lions closer to the relegation zone and bringing themselves to within four points of Millwall. This four-point gap is now the lowest the Owls have had on the safe spots in the Championship all season long.
Ike Ugbo and Anthony Musaba scored a goal each in the first half to win the game 2-0 against the Lions. However, Ashley Fletcher was also sent off in the dying embers of the game and now misses this match.
Wednesday have also managed to beat Birmingham City 2-0 in February, as Ugbo was once again the hero with two goals. The Yorkshire side did lose to Leicester City within this run, however, and combined with a 4-0 loss to Huddersfield, the same result away to Southampton and a loss to Coventry City and a draw with Watford, it now means only two wins in the league in 2024 for the relegation-fighting club. The other victory saw Wednesday beat Hull City 3-1 on New Year's Day.
As for Bristol, it's been another mediocre season for them. The club have so far lose 13 games and won only 12, meaning eight further draws. The Robins lost at home to Queens Park Rangers last time out, which did end a two-game winning run after winning away to Middlesbrough before ending Southampton's 23-game unbeaten run by beating the Saints 3-1 - Sam Bell, Robert Dickie and Harry Cornick all scored in that game.
Bristol are sitting with 44 points and are only behind Watford in 11th by goals difference. A win could take them above the Hornets and the club could also move to level on point with Sunderland in 10th, should the Black Cats lose their game.
