Southampton are looking to get back into the top three this weekend when they play hosts to the struggling Millwall at St. Mary's with the Saints dropping into lost for just the sixth time last weekend.
The south coast side come into this game having now suffered six defeats and behind Leeds United and Ipswich Town by two points. Nevertheless, only Ipswich and Leicester City have lost more games in the Championship and the club are still ahead of Coventry City in seventh and Norwich City in eighth by 15 points. Ultimately, it would be nothing short of disastrous, should Southampton not get into the playoff spots.
The Saints were beaten by Hull last time out, but Joe Aribo returned from the international break with a late goal, although they did manage to beat West Bromwich Albion before this with a finish from Ryan Fraser and a goal from David Brooks.
Southampton did also lose to Bristol City before that game, but they also managed to smash Huddersfield Town 5-3 thanks to a brace from Joe Rothwell and a goal each from Sekou Mara and Samuel Edozie. The Saints also went 2-0 down in that game.
Adam Armstrong has also fallen way adrift of the goalscoring charts behind Sammie Szmodics of Blackburn Rovers, with the Southampton striker last netting a penalty against Bristol City when the club lost 3-1.
Millwall continue to struggle each week after a terrible defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday last time out no doubt being their worst result of the Championship season.
The club are within just one point of the relegation zone now after that defeat and they are also within four points of Wednesday in 23rd. Millwall have now won just eight games and their recent defeat to the Owls was their 16th of the league season.
This now sees the club with 46 goals let in and 31 scored too, with the Lions also losing to Ipswich Town 4-0 two weeks ago, and after losing to Coventry City and Hull City, they have now lost all four games in February. Combine this with defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough and a draw with Preston North End, it is now a eight-game losing run after also heading out of the FA Cup to Leicester City.
