Watford vs. Birmingham Prediction, Tips & Stats

A struggling Watford side are looking to turn their fortunes around as they face Birmingham City in the EFL Championship this weekend.

Watford currently sit 18th in the EFL Championship with one win, two draws and two losses from their first five league games of the season.

A 4-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on the opening day of the campaign gave the impression that The Hornets meant business this season but they've since slumped to five straight losses in all competition in what is a concerning turn of events.

They did at least show some promise in their most recent game where they drew 3-3 away at Coventry City and it could have been much more if not for the piece of miscommunication that lead to Wesley Hoedt's own goal in addition to conceding a late equaliser.

Coventry are undeniably one of the better sides in this league and if Watford can continue to perform like that then they'll no doubt drag themselves out of the slump they find themselves in at present.

A 0-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers aside, Watford haven't been too bad at Vicarage Road this season so they'll be hoping they can use their home advantage to spur them into a much-needed win here.

Birmingham City currently sit 4th in the EFL Championship with three wins and two draws from they first five league games of the season.

The Blues kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw with Swansea City before registering three straight wins against Leeds United, 1-0, Bristol City, 2-0, and Plymouth Argyle, 2-1, before a 1-1 draw with Millwall.

Birmingham were fancied as a quiet play-off contender coming into this season off the back of significant investment overt the summer in addition to being guided by a highly-rated manage that defied the odds to keep them afloat in this division last season and the early evidence suggests they may well deliver on that promise.

Having taken four points from their two away games in the league they'll feel confident visiting the home of a side that are on such a long winless run.

However, Watford are still very strong on paper and their record this season belies the quality they hold in their ranks so The Blues should be wary of The Hornets' threat coming into this game.

Birmingham should back themselves to avoid defeat in this one but given the positive aspects of Watford's performance against Coventry they might surprise one or two here.

For our Watford vs. Birmingham prediction, we're going for a 1-1 draw.

          Watford Team News

Jamal Lewis is hugely doubtful for the home side with Ken Sema likely to continue at left-back.

Jeremy Ngakia could start at right back in place of Ryan Andrews while Mileta Rajović will once again lead the line, hoping to add to his two goals from visit to Coventry.

          Birmingham Team News

Ethan Laird, Siriki Dembele and Tyler Roberts all remain injured for the visitors and will play no part here.

Juninho Bacuna could be rested following a hectic international schedule over the last couple of weeks given The Blues face a congested fixture schedule of their own in the next week.

Midfielder George Hall also remains out after picking up yet another injury last month.
