Watford will welcome Blackburn Rovers to Vicarage Road this weekend as seventh meets with fifth in a race for the playoffs with just one point keeping these two apart in this unpredictable top six race.
As Burnley and Sheffield United began to run away with the league's top two automatic promotion spots many month ago, it has left the likes of Watford and Blackburn to scrap it out just below them. In fact, Rovers have moved from third down to seventh just inside two weeks because of results going against them. Last time out, they drew 0-0 with Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park in Shaun Maloney's debut as their manager.
It does see them sit in seventh right now and with barely anything to shout about in recent weeks other than a win in the FA Cup fourth round replay over Birmingham City. In fact, by losing 4-0 to Rotherham United earlier in the year and losing to Sunderland and Middlesbrough since Christmas as well, it does mean Rovers have just a 1-0 win over Cardiff City to boast about.
As for Watford, they are one clear but having played one game extra. Nevertheless, they are one of the few clubs that have been able to cling onto a playoffs spot for basically the entire season.
