It's arguably the biggest game of the season for Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town this Saturday in the Championship with both sides aiming for a spot outside of the relegation spots after a terrible campaign so far.
After almost getting back into the Premier League last campaign, the Terriers sit in 22nd after another dreadful bout of form that has seen them win just two of the 10 games since the return for the World Cup break. These results came in a 2-0 win over Rotherham United and a 2-1 victory over Preston North End, but they proved their inconsistent nature by losing to Preston 3-1 just one week later in the FA Cup third round.
Huddersfield drew 2-2 with Blackpool last time out at Bloomfield Road with the Terriers having a chance to move out of the relegation zone with a win. The draw keeps them in 22nd and with a gap of one point to make up on Cardiff City in the safe spots of the Championship. Huddersfield have only scored 8 times this season and only Cardiff and Wigan have scored fewer. Mark Fotheringham's side do have a game in hand on Cardiff, and a win here could rocket them out of the relegation zone with three extra points potentially around the corner.
As for Wigna, they are in much deeper trouble. The Latics come into this one off the back of a commendable draw with Blackburn Rovers, but they still sit down in 24th in England's second tier. Their gap is just three points on Cardiff as well, and if they win that game and avoid defeat here, Wigan could end up jumping out of the bottom three - this is also dependent on the results involving Blackpool and Huddersfield.
It will be a close game and there isn't much separating them heading into the game based on form and the overall season. Wigan have let in the most goals in the Championship this season with a dismal effort of 49, while the Greater Manchester outfit have also scored fewer goals with 27. A low-scoring affair is expected and one that potentially ends in a draw.
