West Ham vs Southampton: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

West Ham United should have the quality within their squad to overcome Southampton, even though both sides desperately need a victory coming towards the season's final stages.

The Hammers are winless in their last five league games; however, against Liverpool, they performed admirably, only losing out to a late winner from Virgil van Dijk. Graham Potter’s side does hold a good record against the Saints in recent league meetings, remaining unbeaten in the last three matches between the two sides. Southampton have only won once in their previous five visits to the London Stadium, losing the remaining four.

The visitors have been conceding at an alarming rate, with the Saints conceding first in seven of their previous nine games and having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 13 matches. Southampton have only won two games in all competitions in 2025, and we believe that will remain the case at the weekend.

We are going for a 2-0 victory for West Ham United. Both sides are in poor form, but the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus will be enough to carry the Hammers to a significant victory.

Graham Potter’s tenure at West Ham United has not had the desired effect that some of the Hammers’ faithful would have envisioned. The former Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea manager joined the club after patience was lost with former predecessor Julen Lopetegui. However, since his arrival, Graham Potter has only won three matches in charge at the club, drawing three and losing seven. Potter currently has a points average of 0.92 per game, whereas Lopetegui departed the club with a points-per-game average of 1.18. Lopetegui only managed 22 games in charge of the Irons.

West Ham United have had a disappointing season in the Premier League, as they are currently 17th in the league standings. The Hammers have collected 35 points, having won nine matches, drawn eight and lost 15. The home side have scored only 36 goals this season whilst conceding 54. The positive for the Hammers will be that their counterparts have undoubtedly had a worse season than them, respectively. Southampton’s return to the Premier League has been nothing short of a disaster for the South Coast side, as they look on course to break the lowest-ever points tally record. The record is currently held by Derby County (11) for their season in 2007/08, and the Saints currently have 10 points after 32 games.

Southampton are bottom of the Premier League and were relegated following a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. The Saints have only won two games this season, drawing four and losing 26. The Saints have been woeful defensively, conceding 77, with heavy defeats to Brentford (0-5), Tottenham Hotspur (0-5) and Chelsea (1-5).

Michail Antonio remains unavailable, as does Crysencio Summerville, who has been ruled out with a muscle injury.

Southampton Team News

Left-back Charlie Taylor is the only injury concern for caretaker manager Simon Rusk and first-team coach Adam Lallana.

West Ham United have been unbeaten in the last three league meetings between the two sides, including the reverse league fixture between the two teams. The two sides met on Boxing Day and were separated by a second-half strike by Jarrod Bowen in one of Julen Lopetegui’s final games in charge of the Hammers.

Southampton:

The Saints have gone nine games without a victory in the Premier League and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 13 matches in all competitions. Southampton have lost four of their previous five league games, with defeats against Aston Villa (0-3), Tottenham Hotspur (3-1), Wolves (1-2) and Liverpool (3-1). Their only point gained in their last five matches was in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, to which Matheus Franca denied them three points in injury time.

Southampton have gained only three points from their last five away games, when they beat Ipswich Town (1-2) at Portman Road. The Saints have lost their last three away matches, with defeats against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea (4-0).
