Crystal Palace vs Millwall Prediction

Crystal Palace enter this South London derby against Millwall as favourites due to the fact that they ply their trade in the Premier League, while the Lions are in the Championship.

Oliver Glasner’s side are in good form of late, having won seven of their last nine matches across all competitions including impressive victories over Manchester United and Aston Villa.

These two sides actually met as recent as January 2022 in the FA Cup, resulting in Palace winning 2-1 against Millwall at The Den. On top of this, Millwall’s Championship away record may be the ninth best in the division, however, it is somewhat average, having won four and drawn eight of their 17 matches away from The Den.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 3-1 Millwall

Crystal Palace vs Millwall Prediction & Preview

On Saturday, Crystal Palace hosts Millwall in the FA Cup, in what is expected to be a feisty South London derby at Selhurst Park.

Date: 01/03/2025

Location: Selhurst Park

Time: 12:15pm

As previously mentioned, this is the first time that these two sides have faced off since January 2022 when goals by Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta gave the Eagles a memorable victory away at The Den.

Glasner’s men are having a solid campaign as they are 12th-place in the Premier League, having recovered from what was a slow start to the season, that saw them win just one of their first 13 league matches. Since then, the Eagles have accumulated 20 points from their last ten games.

In the League Cup, Palace enjoyed a decent run, as they reached the quarter-finals where they were beaten 3-2 away at Arsenal having progressed past the likes of Aston Villa (2-1), QPR (2-1) and Norwich City (4-0).

The FA Cup could offer some further escapism from what looks like being a solid but unspectacular finish, as the Eagles have managed to knock out Stockport County (1-0) and Doncaster Rovers (2-0) thus far. Could they reach another FA Cup final like they did in 1990 and 2016?

If Palace are to progress, they may well be reliant on the form of French forward Jean-Philippe Mateta who has found the net 15 times in 32 appearances across all competitions this campaign.

Millwall managed to beat both Dagenham & Redbridge (3-0) and Leeds United (2-0) in the Third and Fourth Rounds of the FA Cup ahead of this clash with Palace.

The Lions had a less than successful EFL Cup campaign as they were knocked out in the Second Round at home to Leyton Orient (1-0) after beating Portsmouth (1-0) at Fratton Park in the First Round.

Alex Neil will know that the Championship league table is ultimately what matters most to the Lions as they sit 12th in the standings with 45 points from 34 matches, seeing them just six points adrift of sixth-place Blackburn Rovers who occupies the final play-off place.

The Scotsman has been in charge of Millwall since 30th December and has had an impressive start, winning six and drawing four of his first 13 matches, equating to a 46% win percentage.

Where to Watch

Crystal Palace versus Milllwall will be shown live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport’s Website.

Form Guide

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace enter this match with four wins and one loss from their last five matches, with their sole defeat being via a 2-1 scoreline at home to Everton.

Glasner’s men have managed impressive victories over Manchester United (2-0), Doncaster Rovers (2-0), Fulham (2-0) and Aston Villa (4-1), with Ismaila Sarr (2), Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah all getting on the scoresheet against the latter mentioned opponent on Tuesday night.

Millwall

Millwall suffered a shock 5-1 away loss to Plymouth Argyle just four days after their terrific 1-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

Since then, the Lions have drawn 1-1 with both West Bromwich Albion and Preston North End while scraping a narrow 1-0 win against Derby County at Pride Park thanks to a 95th-minute winner from Joshua Coburn.
