Blackpool welcome Portsmouth to Bloomfield Road this weekend with the Tangerines aiming to get themselves right back in the mix of the playoff spots just as Pompey look to extend their lead at the top of the table.
There is a solid chance that both of these sides are playing in the Championship next season with Blackpool still just outside of the playoff spots and continuously jumping in and out of the top six. The club are currently in eighth and behind Stevenage in sixth by four points, so although a spot directly back in the promotion positions is not on the cards this weekend, the chance of them getting back amongst them over time is certainly there.
In fact, Blackpool have managed to win just one less game than Stevenage and have even scored eight more goals than them and let in just one more goal than Bolton Wanderers in second. It has no doubt been one of Blackpool's best seasons in recent campaigns and the club are also heading into this one after beating Bolton three weeks ago in a fantastic 4-1 victory.
Jake Beesley scored a goal in either half that day alongside Marvin Ekpiteta's first-half finish. Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel also netted late on that day in what was a comeback victory for the Tangerines.
Blackpool did suffer a loss to Leyton Orient shortly after but returned to winning ways last weekend by beating Blackpool 2-0 with a goal each from Karamoko Dembele and Hayden Coulson.
Portsmouth, however, continue to impress as one of the best sides in the Football League right now, as only Leicester City across the top four professional divisions in England have more of a comfortable position from the respective divisions. Pompey have lost just four times this season, and although this has seen them win 22 and draw 10 times, they are unbeaten in the past nine games since a shocking 3-0 loss to mid-table Leyton Orient.
Portsmouth have managed to beat the likes of Northampton Town, Oxford United, Cambridge United, Carlisle United, Port Vale and Fleetwood Town ever since and also draw with Charlton Athletic and get a draw with Oxford.
