Burton Albion vs Port Vale Preview, Tips & Stats

Port Vale make the trip to Pirelli Stadium this Saturday to take on Burton Albion in League One. Both sides find themselves in the bottom half of the table, needing three points to either get out of the relegation zone or build an even bigger gap.

Burton currently sit 19th in League One after 38 games. The Brewers have ten wins, nine draws and 19 losses, leaving them on 39 points, five points outside of the relegation zone.

In their last five games in all competitions, Burton have one draw and four losses.

Paul Huntington scored the only goal of the game in the 27th minute to give Carlisle the 1 - 0 win over Burton, despite The Brewers having more shots on target. The trip to Cheltenham saw only two shots on target for the entire 90 minutes, with Burton being responsible for both. However, neither of these shots were converted and Burton had to settle for the 0 - 0 draw.

The next time out was a visit from Peterborough. Ricky-Jade Jones opened the scoring early in the second half but Ademola Ola-Adebomi equalised for Burton with 20 minutes to go. However, late goals from Josh Knight and Jonson Clarke-Harris gave The Posh the 3 - 1 win. The trip to top of the league Portsmouth wasn’t much better as John Brayford’s goal was just a consolation for Burton after a brace from Kusini Yengi secured the 2 - 1 win for Portsmouth.

The last time out for Burton was against Exeter City. Reece Cole scored the only goal of the game in the 41st minute as even with Exeter down to ten men, Zak Jules being sent off in the first half, Burton could not capitalise and slumped to a 1 - 0 loss.

Port Vale sit just below Burton in 23rd in League One. In 37 games, The Valiants have eight wins, nine draws and 20 losses which leaves them on 33 points, two points from safety.

In their last five games in all competitions, Port Vale have two draws and three losses.

A big game at the bottom of the table saw Port Vale host Fleetwood. A goal from Jensen Weir and a penalty from Ethan Chislett saw The Valiants with a 2 - 0 lead at halftime. However, a goal from Jayden Stockley in the 88th and 93rd minutes rescued a 2 - 2 draw for Fleetwood. An own goal from Kacper Lopata opened the scoring for Derby in the fifth minute and goals from Dwight Gayle and Louie Sibley secured a 3 - 0 win for Derby.

Port Vale were behind early on again with Daniel Udoh’s goal in the sixth minute. Tom Bloxham then doubled Shrewsbury’s lead and despite Baylee Dipepa getting Port Vale on the scoresheet with 20 minutes to go, Shrewsbury held on for the 2 - 1 win. The Valiants could only manage two shots on target against Leyton Orient but failed to convert any of them as the game finished in a 0 - 0 draw.

The most recent outing for Port Vale was against Oxford United. Ciaron Brown and Josh Murphy both scored to give Oxford the 2 - 0 win.
Burton and Port Vale have met 18 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming as recently as 2010. Port Vale have the slightly better record in the fixture with eight wins in comparison to Burton’s six wins, the other four games ending in a draw.
