Cambridge United vs Blackpool Preview, Tips & Stats

Cambridge United host Blackpool at Abbey Stadium this Saturday in a jam-packed weekend of League One football. While Blackpool are knocking on the door for Play-off football, Cambridge find themselves in the bottom half of the table, needing a bigger gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Cambridge currently sit 18th in League One after 20 games. The Us have five wins, six draws and nine losses, leaving them on 21 points, just six points above the relegation zone with a number of teams below them having a game in hand.

In their last five games in all competitions, Cambridge have one win, one draw and three losses.

A brace from Ephron Mason-Clarke and Kwame Poku along with an own goal from Liam Bennett gave Peterborough the 5 - 0 win over Cambridge, with The Us having just 30% of the possession. The trip to Northampton Town saw Kieron Bowie and Sam Hoskins give Northampton the 2 - 0 lead just minutes into the second half. Gassan Ahadme did get Cambridge on the scoresheet, but the red card to Paul Digby killed the comeback, as Northampton won 2 - 1.

The misery continued with the visit from Lincoln City. A penalty from Daniel Mandroiu and goals from Dylan Duffy and Jack Vale gave Lincoln the 3 - 0 win, despite Cambridge having 61% of the possession. The one win came in the Second round of the FA Cup against Fleetwood. Danny Andrew, Elias Kachunga, Fejiri Okenabirhie and Ahadme all scored in a 4 - 0 win for Cambridge to secure their spot in the next round.

The last time out for Cambridge was against Charlton. Alfie May and Chem Campbell put Charlton 2 - 0 ahead in the second half. However, a brace from Ahadme in the last ten minutes of the game grabbed a 2 - 2 draw for Cambridge.

Blackpool, on the other hand, sit eighth in League One. In 21 games, Blackpool have nine wins, six draws and six losses which leave them on 33 points, just three points outside of the Play-off places.

In their last five games in all competitions, Blackpool have four wins and one loss.

A Jordan Rhodes penalty, a brace from Jake Beesley and a goal from Kyle Joseph gave Blackpool the dominant 4 - 0 win over Shrewsbury. The next time out was a big win over top of the league Portsmouth. Owen Dale, Beesley, CJ Hamilton and Albie Morgan all scored in the 4 - 0 win over ten-man Portsmouth, who had Joe Morrell sent off in the 63rd minute.

Bowie opened the scoring in the first half for Northampton Town, but Rhodes equalised in the second half. However, within ten minutes from Rhodes’ equaliser, Hoskins scored to give Northampton the 2 - 1 win. In the Second round of the Football League Trophy, Blackpool hosted Barnsley. Despite Barnsley going ahead through John McAtee, Dale and Beesley both scored to give Blackpool the 2 - 1 win.

The most recent outing for Blackpool was against Carlisle. A goal from Andy Lyons in the first half and a brace from Rhodes in the second half gave Blackpool the 3 - 0 win over Carlisle.

Cambridge and Blackpool have met just 11 times, with the first meeting coming back in 1993. There’s not too much to separate the two sides, with Blackpool having four wins in the fixture in comparison to Cambridge’s three wins, the other four games ending in a draw.
