Cheltenham vs Cambridge Prediction, Tips & Stats

Whaddon Road is the venue for Cheltenham versus Cambridge this weekend and both sides will be desperate to pick up a much needed victory. The Robins did the double over this weekend’s opponent last campaign, winning both ties 2-1.

            Cheltenham

Cheltenham Town have conceded the most goals in league One this season and they have also scored the least. In twelve games thus far, Wade Elliot’s side have put the ball in the back of the net on just one occasion, which puts their average per game at 0.08. The Robins are rock bottom of the league, the only side in the division to have not won a game.

Having said that, maybe development is starting to occur as their only goal of the season was scored last time out, in the home 1-1 draw against Derby. Robert Street opened the scoring for the hosts in the 39th minute, however Derby equalised before the break. From that point on, Cheltenham were completely dominated but with luck on their side, they held on for an important draw.

            Cambridge

The U’s started the season in great form and all four of their wins this season came in the opening six matches. However since then, they have struggled massively. Cambridge are in 17th place and their biggest problem has been in front of goal, scoring an average of 1 per game. Defensively, they are solid and have only conceded 14 in 12 matches, yet their away form has let them down this season.

Last time out, they hosted Shrewsbury and picked up one point, with the score ending 1-1. Both teams racked up 24 shots between them, but only three were on target. The first half ended 0-0 and Michael Morrison put Cambridge 1-0 up in the 69th minute. It seemed as though they would pick up a much needed victory but the visitors equalised minutes before time.

            Verdict?

Cheltenham will look to build on the recent draw but it is difficult to see a drastic turn around in performance. Cambridge will view the tie as a brilliant opportunity for three points but it is important that they don’t become complacent.

The final prediction is Cheltenham 0-1 Cambridge.

            Cheltenham Team News

Robert Street will start up front after scoring against Derby and he will be partnered by Will Goodwin in a 4-4-2. Luke Southwood will start in between the sticks.

            Cambridge Team News

Fejiri Okenabirhie is the top scorer with five goals and he will lead the line. Morrison will captain the side from centre half and Mark Bonner will deploy his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
