Derby vs Shrewsbury Prediction, Tips & Stats

Derby County and Shrewsbury Town will meet in League One this weekend as the Rams look to stamp their authority down on the playoff spots once more with the club up into fifth after a swift return to the win column on Tuesday.

David McGoldrick was in on the act once again that day for Derby, as he guided his side to a 2-0 win over Cheltenham Town with Lewis Dobbin also scoring another goal in what is turning out to be a fantastic campaign for him. Prior to this, however, Derby did lose 4-1 to Barnsley in what was arguably the club's worst result of the season.

It meant the club won just three games from February, as Wycombe Wanderers beat them with Lincoln City also snatching a point late on in another match.

It leaves the club in fifth and with two games in hand to play on Bolton Wanderers in fourth place. At the same time, only the top three have netted more than the Ram, with a fantastic record of 53 goals also bringing in 17 wins and seven losses. 29 goals conceded for them also means they are the third-best defensive side in League One.

As for Shrewsbury, they eased past Wycombe Wanderers last time out thanks to a finish from Rekeil Pyke late on and an own goal. This also brought to an end a winless run of three games, as Steve Cotterill's men continue to fight for a spot in the playoffs. They are, however, behind Derby by nine points ahead of this one and sit behind Barnsley by eight points in the top six.

          Derby team news

David McGoldrick comes into this one off the back of another goal and he should play here once more. Mendez-Laing did come off in the recent draw with Morecambe, and he will face a late fitness test in this one. Jason Knight and Lewis Dobbin also came off that day but are seemingly fit to play - the latter netted in the previous game. Tom Barkhuizen has been on the bench in recent times and he likely gets some more minutes, but James Collins will likely stay on the bench because of McGoldrick's form. Louie Sibley and Liam Thompson are back in the squad now too.

          Shrewsbury team news

Ryan Bowman did come off in the win over Wycombe the other week, but it seems as if he will be fit to play in this one. Cristian Saydee was the same, but it looks as if he has an injury to deal with. Tom Bayliss should start, but Carl Winchester is back now as well and Rekeil Pyke and Elliot Bennett are now back in the squad here too, as Rob Street returns from injury. Moore and Phillips will remain in midfield once more, and Luke Leahy should stay in central midfield as he continues to impress since his move from the wing into a more central zone.
