Exeter City will be looking to jump into the top half of the table this weekend when they welcome Cambridge United to St James Park with the away side now down in the bottom three after another loss in midweek.
As the weeks go by, so does the hope of Cambridge staying in League One this campaign. Mark Bonner's men lost to Fleetwood Town in midweek thanks to a late goal from Shaun Rooney, and this now keeps the club down in 23rd. The club have managed to put together just eight wins this season and the only thing keeping them from rock bottom in the third tier is the dreadful form of Forest Green Rovers.
The U's are now behind Accrington Stanley by one point in the table and have also played two more games than them. Worse yet, they also trail MK Dons in 22nd by a worse goals difference, as their record of just 26 goals scored is one less than Forest Green Rovers and Cheltenham in regards to the league's worst scorers.
Exeter are in a bit of a rut right now. The club head into this one having not registered a win in February, with them beating MK Dons at the end of January. A 2-1 home loss to Charlton Athletic came soon after, as Burton Albion then beat them 1-0 away from home.
A 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury and a 1-0 loss to Port Vale has sent them down into 14th in the league, and they are now behind the top 10 by eight points having also played more games than most around them. In fact, a loss here could send the club crashing down into 17th if other results don't go their way.
