A huge game in the bottom half of League One comes our way this Saturday with Fleetwood Town aiming to get out of the relegation zone and bring Wigan Athletic closer to it in the process.
Fleetwood secured a draw with fellow relegation-sitting Port Vale during the week which now keeps the club a point four points behind the latter. Jayden Stockley was the hero that day with his two goals in the last six minutes of the game earning them a point at Vale Park.
It means Fleetwood have drawn 10 games this campaign, which also means only Chalrton Athletic, Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers have drawn more fixtures. Worse yet, it kept up Fleetwood's winless run with only six victories on the board putting them five adrift of Cheltenham Town in the race to get out of the bottom three.
Fleetwood have now not won in the past five games after also drawing with Exeter City and Reading down in the bottom half of the table, alongside losses to Lincoln City and Barnsley in February. The last win for them came against Bristol Rovers, where Stockley was once again stealing the headlines with another goal after Ronan Coughlan bagged the opener.
Further losses to Cambridge United, Portsmouth and Derby County mean only two wins in 2024 so far, as they also drew with Wycombe. The other victory was a massive one, as they took all three points off the relegation-fighting Vale, as Coughlan and Stockley got more goals before Ryan Broom also bagged.
Wigan remain in the bottom half of the table, but if it wasn't for their brutal points deduction, they would be right up there in the race for the playoffs. The Greater Manchester side have now won 15 times after a win against the promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers thanks to a second-half finish from Stephen Humphrys.
Wigan also managed to draw 1-1 with Cheltenham Town last Friday, and a 1-0 win away to Shrewsbury Town means a three-game unbeaten run in the past two weeks. They did lose to Exeter City and Oxford United in February, but a famous win away to Peterborough United means they are within touching distance of the top half of the table.
