Leyton Orient will be aiming to apply some pressure to the teams above them with a win as they are set to host Burton Albion at Brisbane Road on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts are currently sitting in 8th position in the League One table, having gained 48 points from their 32 league outings so far this season. The O’s are currently seven points adrift of the playoff positions.
Richie Wellens’ side come into this weekend’s game on the back of a good run of form which has seen Orient win three of their last four league games. The O’s recorded back to back victories over Carlisle and Port Vale at the beginning of February.
Orient then recorded a narrow 2-1 defeat against promotion-chasing Barnsley but were able to get back to winning ways last time out as they beat Northampton 4-3 in thrilling fashion. Goals from Ollie O’Neill, Shaq Forde and Sotiriou had put the O’s in front three times, only for Marc Leonard, Kieron Bowie and Tyreece Simpson to peg them back on each occasion.
But with the tie looking destined for a draw, Ruel Sotiriou scored his second of the game to secure a thoroughly-deserved victory for Orient in East London.
Burton Albion are currently sitting in 18 place in the League One table, having gained 35 points from their 31 league outings this campaign. Albion are still at risk of relegation as there are just four points between themselves and the relegation zone.
The Brewers’ form seems to have improved in recent weeks as they have lost just one of their last four league outings. This run has included a victory over Charlton and a draw against Cambridge.
Last time out Burton gained another precious three points as they narrowly defeated Bristol rovers. Goals from Ciaran Gilligan and Mark Helm were enough to move the Brewers five points clear of the relegation zone as they recorded their first away league win since October.
Burton did not feature in midweek action as their game against Carlisle was postponed due to the weather. This may mean that the Burton players are fresher heading into this weekend.
This is only the second professional meeting between these two sides, with the first meeting coming in the reverse fixture in October. Neither side could break the deadlock on that occasion as the game finished goalless.
Neither keeper was seriously tested throughout the game with clear chances at a premium although skipper Deji Oshilaja could have won in late on and Orient striker Ruel Sotiriou forced Max Crocombe into a good save in added-on time.
It is Leyton Orient who are heavily favoured at the bookies ahead of this weekend’s matchup and are currently odds on @ 8/15, whilst an away win for Burton is priced @ 5/1 and a draw is @ 29/10.
We are backing Ruel Sotiriou to score the first goal in the game @ 4/1 as he comes into this game on the back of an impressive run of form which has seen him net ten goals so far this season including a brace last time out.
