Peterborough vs Blackpool Prediction, Tips & Stats

A huge game in the race for the top six playoff spots in League One takes place this weekend with Peterborough United and Blackpool clashing with only nine points keeping apart the fifth-placed Posh and ninth-placed Tangerines.

Despite sitting behind Peterborough by nine points and needing at least three games to overturn the deficit, a win here would bring them onto 50 points and to potentially five points of the playoff spots, should Oxford United lose this weekend as well. Ultimately, a lot needs to go in favour of Blackpool in order for them to get into the top six, but their hopes of a spot back in the Championship are far from over.

Blackpool have also let in one less goal than Peterborough's tally of 39, but the Lancashire side have fell out of the race for the top six spots right now due to a four-game winless run in League One since beating Bristol Rovers 2-1.

This has seen them draw at home with Charlton Athletic before a 1-0 loss away to fellow playoff hopefuls Stevenage. Back at Bloomfield Road, the Tangerines would draw with another promotion hopeful, Oxford United, 1-1. However, by losing to the relegation-fighting Cheltenham Town in midweek, Blackpool are the most out-of-form team currently sitting in the top 10.

As for Peterborough, they are up into fifth and their nine-point gap on Blackpool is coupled with a gap of three points on Stevenage just outside of the playoff spots. The Posh will also no doubt be eyeing up a spot in fourth, as Barnsley are only a point clear of them.

          Peterborough United team news

Unlike Blackpool, Peterborough were not in midweek action and were able to rest up instead. Michael Olakigbe also returns to action here after his one-match suspension due to two yellow cards picked up against Exeter City. Mason-Clark and Randall will start alongside him once more, with Jones up top. Harrison Burrows continues to impress and will start at left-back once more with Edwards, Knight and Katongo. Jonson Clarke-Harris is also set to come back into the starting XI after starting on the bench in the last two games, so you would expect.

          Blackpool team news

A midweek loss to Cheltenham was a bitter pill to swallow for manager Neil Critchley, and he might make a few changes as a result of a quick turnaround and a poor finish. Sonny Carey started on the bench that day and may now feature alongside Kyle Joseph and Dembele. Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel should also come into the midfield after missing the last match. Richard O'Donnell continues to miss out in goal for Grimshaw, but we should see Shyane Lavery and Ollie Norburn get more minutes here after missing the starting XI in midweek. Matty Virtue is out injured.
