Port Vale vs. Cheltenham Prediction, Tips & Stats

Two sides in need of a win square off in League One this weekend as Port Vale face Cheltenham Town.

Port Vale currently sit 14th in League One with five wins, three draws and six losses from fourteen games this season.

After an impressive start to the campaign that had them looking like play-off contenders in the early weeks of the season, Port Vale have tailed off notably and now find themselves attempting to arrest what is a concerning descent down the table.

They're coming into this game winless in their last seven league matches having lost four of their last five, the most recent of which was a 0-1 loss to Peterborough United.

It's an abysmal run that Andy Crosby's men are currently on and what's even more concerning is their impotence in front of goal as they come into this game having failed to score in any of their last five league games.

How or if they turn this around remains to be seen, but it's going to take a huge effort from all involved as they are clearly some deep rooted issues preventing them from performing.

They've lost their last three home games on the bounce but they did at least win both of their two home fixtures prior to that run so they can at least hold some hope that home advantage might play into their hands here.

Truth be told, if Port Vale cannot beat a side that are ostensibly the worst in the league on home soil then they likely have big, big problems ahead of them.

Cheltenham Town currently sit rock bottom of the League One table with one win, two draws and eleven losses from fourteen games so far this season.

It's been a dismal campaign for the Robins so far who look well on their way to relegation as they sit nine points shy of safety at this early stage of the season.

They are, though, coming into this game amidst a somewhat improved run of form having won one, drawn one and lost three of their last five games.

Their most recent outing saw them lose 3-2 away at Blackpool but prior to that game they'd taken four points from games against Cambridge United and Derby County so one could argue they've shown they have enough quality to drag themselves out of the mire.

These two sides have been dead even in the head-to-head standings in recent meetings with both sides winning one of the last six meetings with the other four ending in a draw.

A draw here would be a solid result for Cheltenham but Port Vale fans should accept nothing less than a win.

For our Port Vale vs. Cheltenham prediction, we're going for a 1-1 draw.

James Wilson, Tom Conlon, Alex Iacovitti and Conor Grant make up what is a fairly notable absentee list for Port Vale.

Kofi Balmer is doubtful with Uche Ikpeazu, Alfie Devine and James Plant all hoping for recalls to the starting XI.

          Cheltenham Team News

Cheltenham have no new injury concerns for this one but manager Darrell Clarke could make a change or two after defeat last time out.

Rob Street, Curtis Thompson and Owen Bevan are all pushing to come back into the starting lineup.
