Reading will head on the road for the first time in League One this season with the club beginning their life back in the third tier with a loss at home as Port Vale look for two wins in a row.
Port Vale were stunned on the opening weekend in League One. The club were battered 7-0 by Barnsley and conceded a goal every 15 minutes from the 23rd minute up until the 65th minute of the game.
After such a destructive game, the club would go on to edge past Fleetwood Town on the opening week of EFL Cup action, as Ethan Chislett scored a brace with a goal in either half alongside a finish from Joshua Thomas. Vale had seven shots on target that day - five more than they did against Barnsley.
Last season, Vale let in 71 goals throughout the season in what was the most goals let in throughout the season for those outside of the bottom three. The club also scored just 48, and only five other teams conceded fewer.
As for Reading, their terrible efforts in the Championship last season was met with a loss on the opening day at home to Peterborough. The Royals only had three shots on target that day, but they did redeem themselves with a 4-0 victory against Millwall in the EFL Cup first round.
Kevin Ehibhatiomhan scored after just one minute in the game before netting another in the second half. Charlie Savage scored in the second half too with Mamdi Camara also scoring late on in the game. Still, however, Millwall conceded 20 shots and eight of those hit the target against Millwall.
