It's a must-win match for Sheffield Wednesday when they head to Montgomery Waters Meadow to meet with Shrewsbury Town as the Owls still eye up a league title triumph in League One and promotion back into the Championship.
Wednesday come into this one with a five-point gap on Plymouth Argyle in first and a four-point gap on the automatic promotion spot where Ipswich Town currently sit. It now means the club head into the final two games knowing they must collect all six points and hope that both Ipswich and Plymouth lose their final games.
This seems an unlikely feat, but with two games left to spare, it is still not mathematically impossible and they will, at the very least, eye up a spot in second above Ipswich to move into the Championship. The club do also have a tough game on the final day of the season against Derby County, who will be fighting to secure a playoffs spot by that point.
Despite returning to the win column with a two-game winning run against Bristol Rovers and Exeter City, their title chase fell apart when they won just one game in eight between March and April after a loss to Forest Green and Burton Albion, while drawing with Cheltenham Town, Lincoln City and Oxford United. Their only win in this time was against Accrington Stanley. Regardless, they have still secured a playoffs spot at least.
As for Shrewsbury, they are eyeing up a spot in the top 10 this season with a game in hand to play on Lincoln City in 10th but with an inferior goals difference. The gap is three points on the Imps, and they may need to win their game in hand to secure a spot in the top 10.
Salor lost to Bolton Wanderers last weekend after a defeat to Plymouth Argyle the week prior to that. In fact, following on from losses to Ipswich, Charlton Athletic, Peterborough United and Barnsley and a draw with Portsmouth, they have now failed to win a game in the past seven since beating Morecambe.
In the wake of such terrible form from Shrewsbury, we expect a win for Wednesday and a fight until the final day for a promotion spot.
