Wigan vs Cambridge Prediction, Tips & Stats

Wigan Athletic are aiming to stay outside of the bottom three in their hosting of Cambridge United after a decent start to the season sees the Latics overturn their negative points balance set at the beginning of the campaign.

After relegation from the Championship last time out because of a points deduction tally, things were made worse by a further point deduction back in League One which meant the club started the season with minus points before a ball was kicked.

However, a decent turnaround in form now sees Wigan out of the bottom three and with two points on the board after winning three games and losing only two. They have, however, suffered these two losses in their past two games where Barnsley and Blackpool have managed to defeat them by scoring two goals in each game. Before this, the Latics registered a sensational 4-0 win over promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers in an all-Greater Manchester affair.

Cambridge head into this one after another impressive win that saw them beat Reading 1-0 to register their fourth win of the season to keep them in sixth and just two behind league leaders Stevenage.

The U's have only lost to Stevenage and Leyton Orient this season and are well on course for an early charge into the playoff spots in 2023/24.

            Wigan team news

Charlie Hughes received a straight red card for this tackle against Barnsley two weeks back and he remains suspended for this match here. Watts, Pearce and Clare are set to feature as well. Smith and Adeeko should also feature, with Humphrys, Charlie Lang and Callum McManaman in the attacking midfield roles. Charlie Wyke should remain in the striker role as well too. Liam Morrison is fit, however, as is Josh Magennis and Jordan Jones, and Tickle should remain in goal for Ben Amos, who continues to sit on the bench for Wigan.

            Cambridge team news

Cambridge's form has been largely down to the lack of injuries, and Fejiri Okenabirhie is set to feature here after missing last weekend's clash with Reading. The same applies to Elias Kachunga and John Gordon. Harrison Dunk and James Holden are also fit to play here. Brophy, James Lankester and Kaikai are set to feature in this one as well, with Gassan Adhmere featuring in the striker role too. Expect Gavin Thomas and Paul Digby in midfield with Bennett, Bennett, Morrison and Andrew in the usual back three and Mannion in goal.
