Colchester United vs Stockport County Preview, Tips & Stats

Stockport County travel to the Colchester Community Stadium to take on Colchester United this Saturday in League Two. Colchester need a win this weekend to put some more space between themselves and the relegation zone whereas Stockport look to regain the top spot.

Colchester United currently sit 21st in League Two after 34 games. The Us have eight wins, eight draws and 18 losses, leaving them on 32 points, two points above the relegation zone.

In their last five games in all competitions, Colchester have four draws and one loss.

A penalty from Mathew Stevens and a goal from Christian Doidge gave Forest Green Rovers the 2 - 0 lead at halftime. Alistair Smith, Jayden Fevrier and Harry Anderson all scored in a five minute stretch to give Colchester the 3 - 2 lead. However, a goal from Dominic Thompson grabbed the 3 - 3 draw for Forest Green. The next time out, Jack Muldoon scored the only goal of the game in the 92nd minute to give Harrogate Town the 1 - 0 win over Colchester, despite Colchester having 26 shots.

Colchester took the lead into halftime after the goal from Noah Chilvers, and following the red card to Accrington Stanley’s Bradley Hills, The Us controlled the game. However, an own goal from Riley Harbottle in the 80th minute forced the 1 - 1 draw. Cameron McGeehan opened the scoring for Colchester in the seventh minute but a goal from Charlie Lakin just ten minutes later as the game finished 1 - 1.

The last time out for Colchester was against Salford City. Matt Smith opened the scoring for Salford but Bradley Ihionvien equalised for Colchester late on to grab the 1 - 1 draw.

Stockport County, on the other hand, currently sit second in League Two. In 34 games, Stockport have 18 wins, nine draws and seven losses which leaves them on 63 points, equal with top of the league Mansfield.

In their last five games in all competitions, Stockport have one win, two draws and two losses.

Stockport took a healthy 3 - 0 lead into halftime against Grimsby Town, with goals from Antoni Sarcevic, Isaac Olaofe and Lewis Cass. Grimsby did get on the scoresheet through Abo Eisa, but Stockport held on for the 3 - 1 win. Mickey Demetriou opened the scoring for Crewe Alexandra but Olaofe equalised before halftime. However, goals from Ed Turns and Josh Austerfield gave Crewe the 3 - 1 win.

The next time out was a shock loss for Stockport against Tranmere. Tom Davies gave Tranmere the 1 - 0 lead at halftime and a brace from Jordan Turnbull and a goal from Connor Jennings secured the 4 - 0 win for Tranmere, with Stockport only having three shots on target. The trip to Gillingham saw both sides only manage a single shot on target as the game slumped to a 0 - 0 draw.

The most recent outing for Stockport was against Swindon Town. This time Stockport had 20 shots with eight of them on target with 69% of the possession. However, they failed to convert any of these shots and had to settle for another 0 - 0 draw.

This will be the 50th meeting between Colchester and Stockport, with the first meeting coming back in 1958. Colchester have the better record in the fixture with 23 wins in comparison to Stockport’s 11 wins, the other 15 games ending in a draw.
