Forest Green Rovers vs Morecambe Preview, Tips & Stats

Forest Green Rovers host Morecambe at the New Lawn this Saturday in this weekend’s League Two action. Both sides sit in the bottom half of the table and will be looking for the three points to push them further up the table and further away from the relegation zone.

Forest Green currently sit 22nd in League Two after nine games. With two wins, one draw and six losses, Rovers have just seven points to their name. Rovers sit on equal points with two sides above them, but due to their inferior goal difference, they sit in the relegation zone.

In their last five games in all competitions, Rovers have two wins and three losses. Harvey Bunker scored the only goal in the 1 - 0 win over Sutton United, where Forest Green restricted Sutton to just one shot on target. In the Football League Trophy Group stage Forest Green hosted Shrewsbury. Dylan Kadji, Tyrese Omotoye and Mathew Stevens all scored in the 3 - 0 win despite Shrewsbury having more possession and 23 shots. However, Rovers’ form then went downhill. Reece Brown opened the scoring against Crewe Alexandra but goals from Chris Long and Elliot Nevitt and a double from Courtney Baker-Richardson gave Crewe the 4 - 1 win. Jordan Moore-Taylor thought he had equalised with his goal in the 84th minute after Harrison Biggins scored early on, but a goal from Ben Close in the 96th minute gave Doncaster the 2 - 1 win.

Rovers’ most recent outing was against Notts County. Despite Troy Deeney’s heroic hat-trick, Daniel Crowlet, Macaulay Langstaff, John Bostock and David McGoldrick all scored to give Notts County the 4 - 3 win.

Morecambe, on the other hand, sit up in 14th place. Having played only eight games, The Shrimps have three wins, two draws and three losses. This leaves Morecambe with 11 points, which is four points away from the relegation zone.

In their last five games in all competitions, Morecambe have one win, one draw and three losses. Farrend Rawson was sent off in Morecambe’s game against Harrogate Town as Luke Armstrong converted a penalty and George Thomson also scored in the 2 - 0 win for Harrogate. In their game against Salford City Michael Mellon scored early on for Morecambe as Matty Lund was sent off in the 95th minute as Morecambe won 1 - 0. Mellon scored once again against Gillingham but was then sent off in the same game. George Lapslie and Connor Mahoney then scored to give Gillingham the 2 - 1 win. In the Football League Trophy Group stage, Morecambe faced Liverpool’s U21 team. Mateusz Musialowski, Calum Scanton and Bobby Clark all scored in the 3 - 0 win for Liverpool.

The most recent outing for Morecambe was against Swindon Town. Dan Kemp opened the scoring for Swindon before Jake Taylor equalised for Morecambe. Charlie Austin then converted a penalty after Yann Songo’o was sent off. Ethan Walker equalised in the 80th minute to grab a 2 - 2 draw for Morecambe.

Forest Green Rovers and Morecambe have met just ten times in their histories, with the first meeting coming in 2000. Morecambe have the slightly better record in the fixture with four wins in comparison to Rovers’ three wins, with the other three meetings ending in a draw.

          Forest Green Rovers Team News

David Horseman has a relatively fit squad with just one big injury recently. Jordan Moore-Taylor will be out for up to 12 weeks after only just returning to the starting line-up after previous injuries. Horseman originally thought it was a cruciate injury, but it doesn’t look as serious as that.

          Morecambe Team News

Derek Adams, on the other hand, has a fit squad and is only missing one player due to suspension. Songo’o received two yellow cards in the game against Swindon Town and was dismissed in the 55th minute.
