Morecambe make the trip to the Priestfield Stadium this weekend to meet with Gillingham as the Gills sit top of the table in League Two off the back a fantastic start to another year in the fourth tier.
Gillingham fought relegation for the most part in the last campaign and survived only on the final few days of the season after a charge out of the bottom two. This time around, the club are sitting top of the table and have lost to only Grimsby Town and Colchester United so far, although they did fail to score in both those games and concede a total of five combined goals as well.
Gillingham are heading into this one off the back of a return to the win column in League Two, however, as their defeats to Grimsby and Colchester came consecutively alongside a loss in the EFL Cup second round to Luton Town.
The Gills beat Leyton Orient in the Football League Trophy soon after, as two own goals and a penalty from Cheye Alexander handed them the win. They then went on to beat Harrogate Town soon after with a late finish from Shaun Williams.
As for Morecambe, they managed to secure a win over Salford City last time out and now head into this game with a spot in 14th and two wins in the past three games after losing to Harrogate Town. The other win saw the Shrimps defeat Bradford City, and they have now let in six goals and scored six too while losing just two of the six outings. Better yet, with a game in hand on most in the division, Morecambe can move up to as high as sixth if their winning form continues.
