Walsall travel to Priestfield Stadium this weekend, where they will look to defeat Gillingham. They did just that when the sides met in October, with a huge 4-1 victory.
Gillingham
The Gills have struggled over the last two games, as they failed to beat Forest Green at home and lost to MK Dons on the road last weekend. Despite having less of the ball, Gillingham were dangerous but failed to take their chances.
Nevertheless, Gillingham are still tenth in the league and just two points behind Notts County in seventh. Their lack of consistency has cost them, and it seems that if they concede, the chances of them winning are slim. This is because they concede just 1.21 per game and score only 0.89, the lowest in the league.
Walsall
The Saddlers were on an excellent run of form throughout December, but they’ve started to fall off slightly recently. Last weekend, Walsall picked up a frustrating 1-1 home draw versus struggling Sutton in what was an even affair.
Walsall are currently 13th in the league after that game, with 37 points. However, they don’t neither excel nor struggle at both ends of the field, as they boast a rather average goal conceded of 40 while also netting 41. This means that they rarely blow teams away or get battered.
Verdict?
This game should be extremely tight and decided by the finest of margins. It wouldn’t be a shock if it was low-scoring.
It’s difficult to see Gillingham losing this tie, but Walsall’s recent showings could make them put up a fight.
The final prediction is Gillingham 1-1 Walsall.
