Mansfield Town vs Sutton United Preview, Tips & Stats

Field Mill hosts Mansfield Town and Sutton United this Saturday. Mansfield are looking to grab an automatic promotion spot, whereas Sutton United are in desperate need of a win to challenge for safety.

Mansfield currently sit third in League Two after 26 games. The Stags have 13 wins, 11 draws and two losses, leaving them on 50 points, two points behind Wrexham and four points behind top of the league Stockport.

In their last five games in all competitions, Mansfield have two wins, two draws and one loss.

KD Davis and George Maris both scored in the 2 - 0 win over Grimsby Town in a game where Mansfield had 39 shots. Callum Johnson opened the scoring for Mansfield in the first half to give The Stags the 1 - 0 lead at halftime. However, Joe Ironside grabbed a goal in the second half as both sides had to settle for a 1 - 1 draw.

In a big game at the top of the table, Mansfield took on Stockport. Maris and Davis both scored in the second half, Davis’ goal coming in the 12th minute of added time in the 2 - 0 win for Mansfield. Joe White’s second minute goal was the only goal of the game in the 1 - 0 win for Crewe Alexandra over a Mansfield side who had 21 shots.

The last time out for Mansfield was against Morecambe. Mansfield took the lead over Morecambe through Baily Cargill just after the 60 minute mark, but a goal from Charlie Brown meant the game ended in a 1 - 1 draw.

Sutton United, on the other hand, currently sit 23rd in League Two. In 26 games, Sutton have four wins, seven draws and 15 losses which leaves them on 19 points, one point above Forest Green but also eight points from safety.

In their last five games in all competitions, Sutton have one win, two draws and two losses.

The one win for Sutton came at the Cherry Red Records Stadium against Wimbledon. Omar Sowunmi scored the only goal of the game in the second half to give Sutton the 1 - 0 win over Wimbledon. However, next time out was another 1 - 0 scoreline, just not in favour for Sutton. Following the early red card to Harry Smith, Scott Malone grabbed a goal in the second half to give Gillingham the 1 - 0 win.

Shane McLoughlin thought he had grabbed all three points for Newport County with his goal late on. However, Tope Fadahunsi scored in the 90th minute to grab a 1 - 1 draw. In the Third Round of the FA Cup, Sutton took on Championship Plymouth Argyle. Luke Cundle opened the scoring for Plymouth in the first half but Lee Angol equalised just five minutes into the second half for Sutton. However, a penalty from Ryan Hardie and a goal from Morgan Whittaker gave Plymouth the 3 - 1 win.

The most recent outing for Sutton was against Barrow. Ben Whitfield opened the scoring for Barrow but Harry Beautyman equalised just before the halftime whistle. A second goal from Beautyman then put Sutton in the lead, but a late goal from Niall Canavan meant the game ended in a 2 - 2 draw.

Mansfield and Sutton have only met five times in their histories, with the first meeting coming as recently as 2021. Sutton have the better record with three wins in comparison to Mansfield’s singular win, the other game ending in a draw.
