The Mazuma Mobile Stadium is the venue for an exciting League Two clash on Saturday afternoon as Morecambe are set to host Grimsby with the game set to kick off at 15:00.
The hosts currently find themselves in 11th position in the League Two table, having gained 47 points from their 32 league outings so far this campaign. In what is a very congested table, the Shrimps are only one point below the playoffs and one point above Newport County who are in 15th position.
The Shrimps come into thai weekend’s game on the back of some mixed results. Morecambe opened up February by defeating Crawley, Sutton and Tranmere. However last weekend, they failed to beat AFC Wimbledon as the game finished 1-1.
Morecambe also featured in midweek action on Tuesday evening as they were defeated 3-0 by Walsall. Ross Tierney got the ball rolling with Jamille Matt and on-loan Norwich defender Emmanuel Adegboyega both notching for the second time in four days. The Shrimps had plenty of play but created little with the likes of Adegboyega and Liam Gordon commanding when charging down shots.
Grimsby are currently occupying the 22nd position in the league table after gaining just 29 points from their 31 league games this season. The Mariners are still at risk of relegation as they are just six points above the drop zone.
David Artell’s side come into this weekend on the back of a poor run of form which has seen his side go six league games without a victory, gaining just two points. This run has included heavy defeats against the likes of Doncaster, Walsall and Stockport, with the Mariners conceding 14 goals in these three games alone.
Grimsby Town have the third worst defensive record in the league, having conceded 59 goals in 31 games. David Artell will need to ensure that his sides stops leaking goals if he is to guarantee survival.
The fixture of Morecambe vs Grimsby is a relatively new one, with the sides having first met in 2005. In total, these two sides have met on 22 occasions, with Morecambe having the better record, having won 9, whilst Grimsby have won 6 and there have been 7 draws.
It was Grimsby who recorded a slender victory in a five-goal thriller when these sides met earlier on in the season in the reverse fixture. Grimsby scored three goals in 11 second-half minutes to come from behind and defeat Morecambe 3-2.
Quickfire strikes after half-time from Danny Rose, Kieran Green and Rekeil Pyke earned the points for managerless Grimsby at Blundell Park.
It is the home side who come into this game as favourites at the bookies and are currently priced @ 5/4, whilst an away win for Grimsby is priced @ 15/8 and a draw is currently @ 5/2.
We are backing Morecambe and under 2.5 goals as they have the much better form heading into this weekend’s game. Grimsby are also a very low scoring side and have only scored more than one goal in one occasion out of their last six league matches.
