The Shrimps welcome Stockport to the Globe Arena this weekend, with the hosts aiming to cause an upset. The two sides last met in 2011, with Morecambe winning 2-0.
Morecambe
Despite playing two less games than some of the teams around them in the table, the Shrimps are placed in 12th after 18 matches. Morecambe have tasted victory on eight occasions so far, and they will be hoping to earn promotion back to League One. Unfortunately, they boast mediocre statistics at both ends of the field, scoring 1.44 times per game and conceding 1.56 goals. This week’s hosts have lost all of their last four league matches.
That said, last time out, Morecambe beat League One opposition, Wycombe, 2-0 in the FA Cup. The Shrimps took the advantage just before the break via Eli King, and Tom Bloxham added the second after halftime, which secured an impressive win.
Stockport
The Hatters lead the way in League Two, winning 13 of their 20 matches and picking up 42 points. Stockport have been impressive in attack this season, scoring two goals per game on average, whilst also conceding an impressive one goal per game. They’re also the side with the most clean sheets, eight, and they’ve only failed to score twice.
One of those occasions was Stockport’s most recent League Two game, a 0-0 home draw versus Salford. They registered 20 shots and dominated the tie. On another day, they could have won 3-0.
Verdict?
Morecambe have proven to be difficult to beat this season at home, losing only once in nine matches. On the other hand, Stockport have won six of their nine away ties, the best away record in League Two. The tie will be close but the visitors should just edge it.
The final prediction is Morecambe 1-2 Stockport.
