Newport vs. Northampton Prediction, Tips & Stats

For our Newport vs. Northampton prediction, we're going for a 2-0 win for the away side.

Northampton Town's promotion push continues as they gave Newport County in League Two on Friday.

Newport County currently sit 18th in League Two with ten wins, fourteen draws and fourteen losses from thirty-eight games this season.

This season's campaign has been a pretty drab one from a Newport perspective given they've failed to as much as break into the top half for the majority of the campaign.

Instead, they've languished deep in the bottom half and while they've just about stayed clear of the relegation zone their form has been poor for the most part, and they enter this game having won only one of their last five matches, the most recent of which was a 0-0 draw at Colchester United.

They haven't lost any games in that period, in fairness, but the excessive number of draws is indicative of a side that has a lot of work to do in order to kick on.

Their home form isn't too encouraging, either, with the Welsh side failing to win any of their last four games on home soil.

They're currently nine points clear of the drop zone and are in a pretty safe position, but they need an other couple wins to be safe.

Northampton Town currently sit 2nd in League Two with nineteen wins, thirteen draws and seven losses from thirty-nine games this season.

The Cobblers have had a fine campaign this time around as they look to secure promotion to League One having spent the majority of the season in the automatic promotion places.

While things are tight, they're in a good position and they enter this game in decent form having won three and drawn one of their last four matches.

Their most recent outing saw them share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Stevenage, which considering Stevenage are 3rd in the table was a decent result that keeps them in a healthy position.

Their form away from home is solid enough, too, having won two and drawn two of their last four matches on the road.

These two sides drew 1-1 when they last met in October, and with Northampton pushing hard for automatic promotion a similar result would not go down well here.

The Cobblers are four points clear of Carlisle in 4th and have a decent cushion, but they need to win the majority of the remainder of the games to ensure promotion. Fortunately for them, this is a kind fixture that they should win.
