Newport County vs Sutton United Prediction, Tips & Stats

Newport County and Sutton United meet this Saturday at the Rodney Parade in League Two. Both sides will be looking for another win as they look to climb the table with the three points.

Newport currently sit in 12th in League Two, six points from Gillingham in the top spot. In four games, Newport have two wins and two losses and sit on six points. The Ironsides have scored nine goals and have conceded seven, leaving them on a goal difference of two, the worst of those on six points.

Newport’s opening game didn’t quite go to plan when they visited Accrington Stanley. Jack Nolan, Shaun Whalley and Korede Adedoyin gave Accrington the 3 - 0 win and the three points. Despite that opening loss, Newport bounced back with their game against Doncaster. The Ironsides ran riot winning 4 - 0, with Seb Palmer-Houlden scoring within the first ten minutes, Will Evans securing a brace with a goal in each half and an own goal from Rovers’ Richard Wood. However, Newport would then be on the losing side again with their trip to Crewe Alexandra. Evans and Henry William James Charsley were on the scoresheet but Crewe got all three points with a 4 - 2 win.

The most recent outing was a win for Newport on their away day to Forest Green Rovers. Evans once again secured a brace along with a late penalty from Adam Lewis giving Newport the 3 - 0 win.

Sutton United sit down in 20th of League Two three points behind their opponents for this weekend. In four games, Sutton have won once and have lost three times, leaving them with three points. However, Sutton have conceded seven goals this season and have only scored six goals leaving them with the second best goal difference of those on three points.

Sutton started their season with a bang with Joseph Kizzi, Omari Patrick (who picked up two goals), Harry Beautyman and Harry Smith all scoring in a 5 - 1 win over ten man Notts County. Sutton then started their run of three losses, first against Barrow. Lee Angol scored for Sutton but ten man Sutton was not enough to stop Barrow from winning 2 - 1. Ashley Nadesan gave Gillingham the 1 - 0 win when they visited Sutton.

The most recent loss came at home against Wimbledon. Ryan Johnson, Harry Pell and James Tilley all scored in a 3 - 0 thrashing of Sutton where despite the final scoreline the actual game was quite even in terms of possession and shots on target.

Newport and Sutton United is a new fixture in football, with the first meeting between the two coming in 2021 when both teams were finally in League Two. Sutton have the slight advantage in the fixture that’s only been played four times as they’ve beaten Newport twice, whereas Newport have only beaten Sutton once, with the other game ending in the draw.

The most recent meeting in February 2023, Sutton beat Newport 2 - 0 in the league with goals from Coby Rowe and Alistair Smith.

          Newport County Team News

Graham Coughlan has one main injury worry as key centre-back Kyle Jameson was injured in the 4 - 2 loss to Crewe Alexandra. This is a serious injury as Jameson could be out until the end of the year. Other injuries include Declan Drysdale and James Clarke, though the latter could make his return soon.

          Sutton United Team News

Matt Gray doesn’t have any new injuries to contend with this weekend. Important player Sam Hart is still out with a knee injury he picked up in preseason.
