Salford vs Newport Prediction, Tips & Stats

The Ammies host Newport this weekend, in a tie that both teams will be motivated to win, given their current league standings. Salford have won the last four meetings between the two sides and are unbeaten in the last six.

          Salford

Salford City started the season in relatively good form by accumulating seven points from their opening four games. Having said that, their results since then have been atrocious, as they’ve lost their last five matches In League Two. The Ammies are yet to win a game at home this season also and they boast the second worst home record in the league. Matt Smith has been the standout player for Salford and they will need his goals this weekend.

Last time out, it was Smith who inspired his team in attack, picking up a goal and assist, however his efforts were undone by the unsecure defence. Salford lost 3-2 away to Harrogate and prior to the game, this fixture was seen as an opportunity to pick up points. Neil Wood will be pleased with how his side turned around a two goal deficit but they ultimately left with no points.

          Newport

For the neutral, the Exiles have been arguably the most entertaining side to watch in League Two, as their matches have witnessed goals galore. Newport have the third highest average overall goals per game in League two, which comes down to the fact that they have the seventh best goals scored per game on average and also the third worst goals conceded per ninety minutes. On the road they’ve lost 75% of their games, whilst conceding nearly three goals per game on average, which highlights their vulnerable defence.

Last weekend, Newport had the opportunity to win their first game in four games, despite winning three of their five games in August. Unfortunately, they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Bradford which puts them in 15th. This week, they must learn from their mistakes and frustrate Salford, as they were 3-0 down by the half hour mark against Bradford.

          Verdict?

Both sides will give their all to win this game and a victory for either side may just act as the catalyst for improvement. The clubs have had issues defensively so both teams scoring seems likely.

The final prediction is Salford 1-1 Newport.

          Salford Team News

Salford will start in a 4-1-4-1 formation this weekend with Smith up front. Curtis Tilt was a threat from set pieces and he also netted, the Jamaican will start in centre back. Alex Cairns will captain the side from in goal.

          Newport Team News

James Clarke was forced off early last week and he was replaced by Josh Seberry. Graham Coughlan will stick with his 4-2-3-1 formation with Omar Bogle in attack. Nick Townsend should start in net.
