Stockport County vs Newport County Preview, Tips & Stats

Newport County make the trip to Edgeley Park to take on Stockport County this Saturday in League Two. Stockport look to draw level with top of the table Mansfield Town whereas Newport aim to venture further into the top half of the table.

Stockport County currently sit second in League Two after 34 games. The Hatters have 18 wins, nine draws and seven losses, leaving them on 63 points, three points behind Mansfield at the top of the table.

In their last five games in all competitions, Stockport have one win, two draws and two losses.

Antoni Sarcevic, Isaac Olaofe and Lewis Cass all scored in the first half to give Stockport the 3 - 0 lead at halftime. Abo Eisa did manage to get Grimsby Town on the scoresheet, but Stockport held on for the 3 - 1 win. However, the next time out saw Stockport on the wrong side of the 3 - 1 scoreline. Mickey Demetriou opened the scoring early for Crewe Alexandra but Olaofe equalised before halftime. However, goals from Ed Turns and Josh Austerfield secured the 3 - 1 win for Crewe.

Despite having more of the possession, Tom Davies and Connor Jennings both scored along with a brace from Jordan Turnbull to give Tranmere the massive 4 - 0 win over Stockport. However, the next time out saw zero goals in comparison. Both Gillingham and Stockport only managed one shot on target and slumped to a 0 - 0 draw.

The last time out for Stockport was against Swindon Town. This time out Stockport had 20 shots with eight on target in 69% of the possession, but failed to convert any of them. Swindon, on the other hand, only managed two shots on target as the game finished in another 0 - 0 draw.

Newport, on the other hand, currently sit 12th in League Two. In 35 games, Newport have 14 wins, seven draws and 14 losses which leaves them on 49 points, two points from the top ten.

In their last five games in all competitions, Newport have two wins and three losses.

Newport only managed to get on the scoresheet in the 90th minute through a penalty from Will Evans. However, this goal didn’t mean much as a brace from Macaulay Langstaff and a goal from David McGoldrick gave Notts County the 3 - 1 win. Evans was on the scoresheet again for Newport, scoring the only goal of the game in the 60th minute to give Newport the 1 - 0 win over Gillingham.

A poor first half from Newport saw Dan Kemp, Jack Payne and Alex Gilbey all score to give MK Dons the 3 - 0 lead at halftime. Newport could only manage two shots on target and suffered a 3 - 0 loss. However, Newport bounced back against Harrogate Town. A penalty from Evans, a brace from Offrande Zanzala and a goal from Seb Palmer-Houlden gave Newport the 4 - 1 win over Harrogate, who got on the scoresheet late through George Thomson.

The most recent outing for Newport was against Mansfield Town. George Maris scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute to give Mansfield the 1 - 0 win over Newport.
