One of the biggest games of the League Two season takes place this Friday and just three days before Christmas with Stockport County welcoming Notts County to Edgeley Park as two of the promotion hopefuls go head-to-head.
County have taken Notts County's spot in first over the past few weeks with a gap of 10 points now on the two sides. In fact, Stockport are six clear of Barrow in second as well with the most wins in the league with 14 on the board from 22. The Greater Manchester side, however, come into this game knowing that all the sides below them have a game in hand and they could see their healthy lead cut down slightly.
Stockport are heading into this game after a first versus last encounter saw them record their biggest win since coming back into the Football League a few seasons ago. The club defeated Sutton United 8-0 at home with a brace from Ryan Croasdale, a hat-trick from Paddy Madden and a goal each from Joel Allen Cotterill, Kyle Wootton and Isaac Olaofe.
Notts County were beaten again over the weekend with Harrogate Town running out 3-1 winners, which came just a week on from the club losing at Meadow Lane to Walsall. Luke Williams also saw his side lose to Shrewsbury Town 3-2 in the FA Cup second round at the start of this month.
Current form points towards a win for Stockport, but Notts County will still be confident heading into this one after getting the better of County a few times in their days back in the National League. Nevertheless, we think County will win here and continue on at the top of the League Two table heading into 2024.
