Swindon Town will be aiming to record back-to-back league victories for the first time since mid-October as they host Harrogate at The County Ground on Saturday afternoon.
After a mixed run of performances, the hosts now find themselves in 11th place in the League Two table, having amassed 45 points from their 31 league games so far this campaign. The Robins are well and truly still in the hunt for promotion and are just four points behind Salford who currently occupy the final playoff place.
Since the appointment of Jody Morris as manager over three weeks ago, the Robins have struggled in the league. Swindon narrowly lost to Newport in Morris’ first game in charge and this was followed up by defeats against Doncaster and Sutton.
However, Swindon managed to get back to winning ways last weekend as they travelled to the Peninsula Stadium to face a Salford side who sit inside the playoff places. The Robins made life difficult for themselves as they went behind within the first five minutes as Ryan Watson found the bottom corner for Salford.
Swindon responded positively to falling behind and quickly drew level thanks to an innovative flick from Jacob Wakeling. The Robins managed to find a winner in the second period as Ronan Darcy’s cutback was turned into his own net by Elliot Watt.
Jody Morris will be taking the positives from his first victory at the helm and hoping to claim another win this weekend as he faces a Harrogate side who are embroiled in a relegation scrap at the bottom of League Two.
Harrogate Town currently occupy 20th place in the League Two table, sitting on 30 points, following 7 wins, 9 draws, and 15 defeats from their 31 league games this campaign. The Sulphurites are well and truly still at risk of relegation as they sit just four points above the relegation zone.
Simon Weaver’s side are without a win in their last four outings. A 3-1 defeat against Stockport was followed up by three consecutive draws against Salford, Crewe, and Grimsby. Aside from a shock victory against Carlisle, Harrogate have won just one of their last ten outings in the league.
These sides have only met on three prior occasions in the Football league. Since their first meeting in November 2021, there has been one draw and one victory for each side in the three meetings. This is often an exciting, high-scoring affair with there being 10 goals in these three games.
Harrogate beat Swindon 3-0 in the reverse fixture in July as Alex Pattison, Matty Daly and Jack Muldoon all scored in a clinical 3-0 home victory over the Robins. The hosts converted three of their five on-target attempts during a ruthless display.
Swindon are heavily favoured at the bookies ahead of this weekend’s matchup and are odds on @ ⅘, whilst a surprise away Harrogate victory is currently priced @ 10/3. We are backing over 2.5 goals as this is often a free-scoring fixture. There have been over 2.5 goals in 66.7% of meetings between these sides.
