Swindon Town vs Wrexham Preview, Tips & Stats

Swindon Town welcome Wrexham to the County Ground this Tuesday for a big day of Boxing Day football. Wrexham are in contention for automatic promotion, whereas Swindon are stuck in the tight League Two mid table.

Swindon Town currently sit 13th in League Two in 23 games. The Robins have eight wins, six draws and nine losses, leaving them on 30 points, seven points above the relegation zone and six points from the Play-offs.

In their last five games in all competitions, Swindon have two wins and three losses.

Jake Young opened the scoring for Swindon just before halftime to give Swindon the lead over Mansfield Town. Lucas Akins did get Mansfield level just minutes into the second half, but in the 93rd minute, Young completed his brace to give Swindon the 2 - 1 win. It was another game of late action against Accrington Stanley. A penalty from Dan Kemp and goals from Young, Saidou Khan and Charlie Austin gave Swindon the 4 - 0 lead going into the last minute of the game. Despite the late charge from Stanley, with Korede Adedoyin scoring and Bradley Hills grabbing a brace all in extra time, Swindon held on for the 4 - 3 win.

However, next time out, Swindon were unable to get on the scoresheet or even register more than one shot on target. Omar Bugiel and Armani Little both scored and a brace from Ali Al-Hamadi gave Wimbledon the 4 - 0 win. Another loss came against high-flying Barrow. Kian Spence, Sam Foley and James Chester all scored in the 3 - 0 win for Barrow.

The last time out for Swindon was against Tranmere Rovers. Kemp opened the scoring for Swindon but goals from Kieron Morris and Tom Davies gave Tranmere the 2 - 1 win.

Wrexham, on the other hand, currently sit third in League Two. In 22 games, Wrexham have 12 wins, seven losses and three losses which leaves Wrexham on 43 points, equal with Barrow in the last automatic promotion spot.

In their last five games in all competitions, Wrexham have three wins, one draw and one loss.

Andy Cannon and Elliot Lee gave Wrexham the 2 - 0 lead at halftime over Harrogate Town, but Dean Cornelius and Anthony O’Connor both scored in the second half to grab a 2 - 2 draw. In the Second round of the FA Cup, Wrexham hosted Yeovil Town. Ollie Palmer, Cannon and Sam Dalby all scored to give Wrexham the 3 - 0 win.

However, the next time out wasn’t as successful in the Football League Trophy. Deji Oshilaja opened the scoring in the first minute and Mark Helm doubled Burton’s lead in the third minute. Dalby also got on the scoresheet early, but Ryan Sweeney restored the two goal cushion in the second half. Jordan Davies scored late on, but Burton held on for the 3 -2 win. Despite the early red card to George Evans, a goal from Lee and an own goal from Zach Mitchell gave Wrexham the 2 - 1 win.

The most recent outing for Wrexham was against Newport County. James Jones and Lee both scored in the second half to give Wrexham the 2 - 0 win.

Swindon Town and Wrexham have met 37 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 1958. Not much can separate the two teams with Swindon having 15 wins and Wrexham having 14 wins, with the other eight games ending in a draw.

Swindon Town Team News

Michael Flynn has a couple of injuries to manage this festive period. Frazer Blake-Tracy is unavailable for Boxing Day, but a concern, Tyrese Shade, was able to return against Tranmere.

Wrexham Team News

Phil Parkinson has no new injury concerns, but will continue with Mark Howard after the injury to Arthur Okonkwo meant that the goalkeeper needed surgery.
