Tranmere are down in the relegation zone in League Two after a terrible start to the new campaign sees them head into this game with seven defeats in a row as they welcome Accrington Stanley to Merseyside.
It's been a terrible run for Tranmere, and their last win came all the way back on the third week of the season when they beat Harrogate Town 3-0 with a goal each from Luke Norris, Sam Taylor and Kieron Morris. Before this, the club also lost to MK Dons and managed to edge past Barnsley in the EFL Cup first round before that. On the opening day of the season, Tranmere also lost to Barrow at home.
The club have since exited the EFL Cup at the second round by losing 2-0 to Leicester City, while they also went on to lose in the Football League Trophy to Fleetwood Town in a 2-0 away defeat. The Merseyside outfit have lost to Colchester United and Crawley Town since then and with further defeats at the hands of Wrexham, Salford City and Notts County, they have now lost seven in a row.
As for Accrington, they come into this game in much better form with a spot in eighth before this one after a sensational 4-1 victory at home to Sutton United. Tommy Leigh was the difference that day with a goal in either half, as Rosaire Longelo and Joe Pritchard also bagged in that victory.
This puts the club up in eighth after losing to the unbeaten Mansfield Town 3-0 at home, as Stanley have also managed to beat Carlisle United in the EFL Trophy group stage 1-0 with thanks to an own goal. Accrington's other wins this season have seen them edge past Harrogate Town and Newport County, with both coming back in August. The eighth-placed side saw Jack Nolan score in the first half before Shaun Whalley netted against Newport alongside a goal from Korede Abedoyin.
On the other hand to the excellent form shown by Stanley so far in 2023/24, they have still managed to lose to Notts County 3-1 away from home and also lost on the road to Gillingham. Nevertheless, they sit behind the top seven on only goals difference and are adrift of Gillingham by five points at the top of the table.
The contrast in form no doubt points towards a win for Stanley, but with both of their losses coming at home, Tranmere will no doubt be hopeful of collecting all three points.
