Notts County are on a mission to reclaim their spot in the automatic promotion places as they face Tranmere Rovers in League Two on New Year’s Day.
Tranmere Rovers currently sit 17th in League Two with nine wins, three draws and thirteen losses from twenty-five games this season.
It’s been a pretty poor campaign for the Merseyside team thus far but they’re coming into this game in decent form, therefore providing optimism that things could improve over the course of the next few months.
They’re coming into this game amidst a very strong run having lost only one of their last nine games, winning four of their last five.
Their most recent game saw them claim a handy 2-0 win away at Harrogate Town thanks to second-half goals from Charlie Jolley and Tom Davies.
The win was Tranmere’s third consecutive victory in the league and they’re now really starting to climb up the table after such a poor start to the campaign.
They’ve been very good on their own patch in recent weeks as they come into this game having won all of their last four games on home soil.
They will, then, be very confident of taking all three points from this one despite playing a side well above them in the league table.
Notts County currently sit 5th in League Two with thirteen wins, three draws and nine losses from twenty-five games this season.
On the whole, it’s been a very good first half of the season for newly promoted Notts County, even if the overriding feeling will be that it could have been much better had they not suffered a collapse in form from late October up until right before Christmas Day.
However, there are now clear signs that they’re getting back to their best as they come into this game off the back of two emphatic wins: a 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers and, most recently, a 5-0 win over Morecambe.
A hat-trick from Macauley Langstaff and a goal from Daniel Crowley had Notts County 4-0 up at half-time before Jodi Jones made it five one minute into the second half.
The Magpies desperately needed these two wins and they’ll have no doubt breathed confidence right back into the side ahead of this crucial game.
They’ve lost four away games on the bounce coming into this one, but given the shape they’re coming into this game in they may well break that poor run here.
For our Tranmere vs. Notts County prediction, we’re going for a 2-1 win for the away side.
