Wrexham host Morecambe at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday, where both sides will look to shake off recent defeats. The visitors are the underdogs and they will be desperate to cause an upset this weekend.
Wrexham
Wrexham’s goal prior to the season will have been promotion, and after 18 matches, they are in a great position to achieve that. The Red Dragons sit in fourth, winning 50% of their matches and accumulating 33 points. Goals have been free-flowing, netting 1.89 per game on average, but they have been slightly vulnerable at the back, conceding 1.61 per match.
Wrexham had won their last five games in all competitions prior to the 2-0 defeat against Accrington Stanley last week. The Red Dragons dominated the tie, but two second-half goals separated the sides.
Morecambe
The Shrimps have been quietly impressive this season, winning eight matches and accumulating 27 points from 16 games. Morecambe have particularly excelled at the back, conceding just 20 times while scoring the joint eighth most goals per game on average, 1.56.
Having said that, they were pulled apart by Grimsby Town last time out, facing 19 shots, with 10 of them on target, in a 3-2 defeat. A chaotic ten minutes in the second half saw the hosts score three goals, which ultimately decided the tie.
Verdict?
Phil Parkinson’s side have been phenomenal at home, winning six of their nine matches and only losing once. Whereas, all of Morecambe’s defeats this season have occurred on the road. Everything points towards a Wrexham victory.
The final prediction is Wrexham 3-1 Morecambe.
