New York City and Real Salt Lake both sit outside of the playoff spots in MLS ahead of their meeting in Utah on Sunday with the Pigeons as low as they've ever been in MLS at this stage in a season.
New York are sitting down in 13th ahead of this game and they have always been at least in the top 10 after this many games since coming into North America's top division a few seasons back.
This comes after losing seven times and winning just four games with five further draws. They've also managed to lose to New York Red Bulls in a Hudson River derby in this time period too, and the club have failed to win any of their previous eight games.
In fact, it's arguably their worst-ever run of form with the club also losing to then-last-placed Toronto 1-0 back at the end of April with a defeat to Charlotte coming in the following week. New York have also been knocked out of the U.S. Open Cup by Cincinnati in a 1-0 loss before a 3-1 defeat to the Ohio side at the Yankee Stadium.
In fact, the only points the club have picked up in the past six weeks have been in their recent 0-0 draw with New England Revolution and in a 1-1 clash with Orlando City.
As for Real Salt Lake, no other side in the Western Conference have been involved in more goals than them this season other than Vanoucover Whitecaps and the league leaders St. Louis City. Salt Lake have, however, consequently conceded the most goals in the conference too with 27 let in and just 18 scored from nine games.
The side from Utah are, however, on a two-game winning run after defeating LA Galaxy during the week in a 3-2 victory with them also defeating Austin in the last outing in MLS.
