Everton vs Leicester City Prediction

Everton’s recent upturn in form under David Moyes gives us the belief that the Toffees stalwart will provide a third win on the bounce for the Everton faithful.

The Toffees are unbeaten in their two previous league matches coming into this game, following victories against Tottenham Hotspur (3-2) and Brighton & Hove Albion (0-1). Everton have kept things assured defensively also, with less than 2.5 goals produced in eight of the previous nine matches involving Everton.

Leicester City, on the other hand, despite their win against Tottenham Hotspur (1-2), the Foxes have been woeful defensively as they are without a clean sheet in their previous 18 matches. The visitors have also conceded first in five of their last six games.

Everton seem to have momentum under David Moyes, and despite the victory for Leicester City against an out-of-sorts Tottenham Hotspur side, we think Everton will win with a clean sheet.

Everton 1-0 Leicester City.

Everton vs Leicester City Preview & Prediction

David Moyes will be looking for his second win back at Goodison Park as the returning Everton manager, as the side takes on Leicester City.

Date: 01/02/2025
Location: Goodison Park, Liverpool.
Kick-Off: 3pm

Life under the regime of David Moyes has started to kick into life over the past two weeks, with solid victories against Tottenham Hotspur (3-2) and Brighton & Hove Albion (0-1). Since returning to the club he left in 2013, David Moyes has overseen one defeat and two wins for the club, which has aided the Toffees league position substantially. The home side are 16th in the Premier League and seven points clear of Leicester City, with a game in hand (vs Liverpool). A win for the home side will only move them as high as 15th and above Tottenham Hotspur in the league table.

As for Leicester City, despite his opening win against West Ham United (3-1), the new manager bounce for Ruud van Nistelrooy had slowly faded off, with seven consecutive league defeats before that morale-boosting away win against Tottenham Hotspur. There has been external pressure on the former interim manager of Manchester United. Still, the win against Tottenham Hotspur has somewhat alleviated that pressure as the Foxes moved out of the relegation zone. Leicester City will stay in 17th if they win, but will move back into the bottom three if Ipswich Town beat Southampton.

Where to watch

The game will not be available on TV.

Team News

Everton's injury list includes seven players, notably Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the latter sustaining an injury during their 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

For this game, Leicester City continues to be without the likes of Mads Hermansen and Wilfred Ndidi.

Form Guide

The recent history between the two clubs would suggest that Leicester City would have the slightest advantage heading into this game despite the apparent league position of the two clubs. The Foxes are unbeaten in the last three meetings between the two teams, with the two most recent league meetings ending in a stalemate (1-1, 2-2) and the away side beating Everton (0-2) back in 2022. Goals from Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes secured the win for the Foxes that day. Everton are without a clean sheet against Leicester City in the last six meetings. Interestingly, this fixture doesn’t provide a whole host of goals, with five of the previous seven meetings between the two teams producing less than 2.5 goals.

Everton’s form has taken an upturn since the arrival of David Moyes, with the former West Ham United manager restoring some faith at Goodison Park in his second spell as Everton manager. The Toffees are coming into this game with two consecutive wins under their belt against Brighton & Hove Albion (0-1) and Tottenham Hotspur (3-2), following David Moyes’ opening defeat against Aston Villa (0-1). Overall the home side have lost three of their previous five league matches, failing to score against Aston Villa, Bournemouth (1-0) and Nottingham Forest (0-2).

At Goodison Park, David Moyes will have to establish a formidable home record for the Toffees faithful, with Everton only gaining three wins from 11 home league matches. Everton have won twice in their last five home matches at Goodison Park, with victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers (4-0) - whilst also suffering defeats to Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest and gaining a draw against Chelsea (0-0).

Leicester City’s recent away win against Tottenham Hotspur (1-2) would have provided much-needed relief for Ruud van Nistelrooy, as his Leicester City side had ended a run of seven consecutive Premier League defeats. Defensively, there needs to be a vast improvement in this Leicester City side, with the Foxes failing to keep a clean sheet in their previous 18 matches in all competitions and conceding first in five of their last six games.

The win against Tottenham Hotspur also marked Leicester City’s first away victory in six league matches - with the Foxes suffering defeats against Aston Villa (2-1), Liverpool (3-1), Newcastle United (4-0), Brentford (4-1) and Manchester United (3-0). The Foxes have statistically the second-worst away record in the division, with only fellow strugglers Southampton having a worse record than the Foxes.
