Everton vs Liverpool Prediction

With this being the last-ever Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park, there will be extra emphasis on the fixture, meaning that it will likely be a closely-fought contest.

Liverpool have won just one of their last seven visits to Goodison Park, while the last meeting on the blue half of Merseyside resulted in a memorable 2-0 win for Everton as Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both got on the scoresheet.

Under David Moyes, Everton have been much more positive in attack as they have managed to find the back of the net seven times in their five games since the Scot returned, however, they could have their work cut-out in the department, as Liverpool are the Premier League’s top scorers with 56 goals in 23 matches.

Prediction: Everton 1-1 Liverpool

Everton vs Liverpool Prediction & Preview

Wednesday night’s Premier League action sees Everton host Liverpool in what will be the last-ever Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.

Date: 12/02/2025

Location: Goodison Park

Time: 12/02/2025

Everton are 16th in the Premier League table heading into this showdown, however, they have had a new lease of life under returnee manager, David Moyes, having won three of their first five matches under the Scotsman, seeing them already accumulate nine of their 26 Premier League points in just four league games under the 61-year-old.

The Toffees started the 2024/25 season under the management of Sean Dyche, however, the ex-Burnley manager was sacked on 9th January after 84 matches in charge, with the club just one point above the Premier League’s relegation zone and on a run of three wins in their last 19 games of the 2024/25 season.

Premier League survival is all that the Toffees have to play for this season and it looks like they’re well on their way to doing that as they sit nine points clear of 18th-place Leicester City with 26 points from 23 games.

On the other hand, Liverpool are now fighting on three separate fronts as their chances of a quadruple ended in spectacular style on Sunday, as they were beaten 1-0 by Plymouth Argyle in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup - as Arne Slot paid the penalty for fielding a heavily rotated side.

The Reds have been sensational throughout the 2024/25 campaign, as this game presents itself with an opportunity to move nine points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, as they’ve amassed 56 points from 23 matches (17 wins, five draws and one defeat).

Former Feyenoord manager, Slot, has also seen his side reach the final of the League Cup where they’ll face Newcastle on 16th March, while in the Champions League, Liverpool managed to advance through to the Round of 16 as they finished top of the Group Stage with 21 points, as they won seven and suffered just one defeat.

It's safe to say that both sides are desperate for the win here in what are rather differing circumstances, the Toffees will be keen to further consolidate their place in the top-flight and to make the last derby at Goodison Park a memorable one, while Liverpool will be keen to leave a mark at the home of their local rivals while giving themselves an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

Where to Watch

Everton versus Liverpool will be broadcast live in the UK to subscribers of TNT Sports and BT Sports Ultimate.

Team News

Everton

David Moyes will be without the likes of Orel Mangala, Dwight McNeil, Armando Broja and Dominic Calvert-Lewin due to injury.

Liverpool

Arne Slot’s options at right-back have been reduced, as Joe Gomez suffered an injury in the Red's FA Cup defeat to Plymouth, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is also a doubt for this clash, meaning that Conor Bradley is expected to start.

Form Guide

Everton

Everton suffered a 2-0 FA Cup defeat at home to Bournemouth at the weekend, meaning that the Premier League is all the Toffees have left to play for in the 2024/25 season.

Prior to that loss, David Moyes’ side had picked up some terrific form, as following their narrow 1-0 home loss to Aston Villa, Everton earned super wins over Tottenham Hotspur (3-2), Brighton & Hove Albion (1-0) and Leicester City (4-0). Abdoulaye Doucoure, Beto (2) and Iliman Ndiaye all got on the scoresheet against the Foxes.

Liverpool

Liverpool have won three and lost two of their last five matches, with their two defeats coming while using rotated sides against Plymouth Argyle (1-0) and PSV (3-2).

Arne Slot’s men thrashed Tottenham 4-0 in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final, seeing the Anfield club progress to the League Cup final as Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk all got on the scoresheet.

The Red's last two league matches have resulted in wins over AFC Bournemouth (2-0) and Ipswich Town (4-1).
