Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction

Manchester City come into this game unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League outings, winning eight of those. City have lost only three games on home soil in the last three Premier League seasons combined, while Spurs are winless in their last six league games on the road, losing five of those.

Manchester City have won three of the last five head-to-head meetings between the two sides, and while Spurs will be no pushovers, City simply have too many difference makers in the forward areas to ignore.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview & Prediction

Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday lunchtime, as both clubs aim to build early momentum in the Premier League season. City enter the fixture having begun their quest to reclaim their title in comfortable fashion, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 away with Erling Haaland once again leading the scoring charts.

  • Date: 23/08/2025
  • Kick-off: 12:30pm
  • Location: Etihad Stadium, Manchester

City have strengthened their squad significantly this summer and fans will be delighted by the performance of new boy Tijjani Reijnders last weekend. The midfielder displayed an immense performance in the middle of the park, showcasing a vast arsenal of tools that Pep Guardiola will be keen to utilise. Rayan Cherki also had a strong debut off the bench, scoring a fine goal, while James Trafford looked extremely assured between the sticks.

The Sky Blues were probably the most impressive of all the likely title contenders on the opening weekend, and while their opponents were poor, a team can only beat what's in front of them. There will be greater tests to come for City, starting with Tottenham this weekend, but if they take three points from this game, the wind will no doubt be in their sails.

Tottenham also got off to a flyer on the opening weekend, beating newly promoted Burnley 3-0. An excellent brace from Richarlison and a goal from Brennan Johnson secured a good result on Thomas Frank's league debut in the Spurs dugout, even if the performance was far from perfect.

Spurs still have a lot to work on and desperately need some more incomings before the transfer deadline, with the team's forward line looking a bit blunt by "big club" standards. Rumours have it that Eberechi Eze is on the verge of joining the club, while the North London club are still pursuing the signature of Savinho, currently contracted to this weekend's opponents.

New attackers are a must for Tottenham if they want to finish in the top four this season, so if not Eze and Savinho, Spurs fans should hope that Daniel Levy's staff have other targets lined up.

Recent Form/Form Guide

Manchester City:

Goals from Erling Haaland (X2), Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki secured a 4-0 win away at Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, a result that means City are now 11 games unbeaten in the Premier League.

In the Club World Cup over the summer, City lost 3-4 to Al-Hilal, a result that came after a 5-2 win over Juventus, a 6-0 win over Al-Ain and a 2-0 win over WAC.

Tottenham:

Tottenham come into this game off the back of a 3-0 win over Burnley, where a Richarlison brace and a goal from Brennan Johnson got the job done. Spurs performance was up and own, and Burnley gave them a number of nervous moments, but Spurs ultimately defended well, and their goals were extremely well worked.

Before that game, Spurs drew 2-2 with PSG in the UEFA Super Cup before losing 4-3 on penalties, a result that followed a 1-4 loss to Brighton in the final league game of last season and a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
