City have strengthened their squad significantly this summer and fans will be delighted by the performance of new boy Tijjani Reijnders last weekend. The midfielder displayed an immense performance in the middle of the park, showcasing a vast arsenal of tools that Pep Guardiola will be keen to utilise. Rayan Cherki also had a strong debut off the bench, scoring a fine goal, while James Trafford looked extremely assured between the sticks.
The Sky Blues were probably the most impressive of all the likely title contenders on the opening weekend, and while their opponents were poor, a team can only beat what's in front of them. There will be greater tests to come for City, starting with Tottenham this weekend, but if they take three points from this game, the wind will no doubt be in their sails.
Tottenham also got off to a flyer on the opening weekend, beating newly promoted Burnley 3-0. An excellent brace from Richarlison and a goal from Brennan Johnson secured a good result on Thomas Frank's league debut in the Spurs dugout, even if the performance was far from perfect.
Spurs still have a lot to work on and desperately need some more incomings before the transfer deadline, with the team's forward line looking a bit blunt by "big club" standards. Rumours have it that Eberechi Eze is on the verge of joining the club, while the North London club are still pursuing the signature of Savinho, currently contracted to this weekend's opponents.
New attackers are a must for Tottenham if they want to finish in the top four this season, so if not Eze and Savinho, Spurs fans should hope that Daniel Levy's staff have other targets lined up.
