Manchester United have become desperate for a win this Saturday when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford with the Red Devils now losing two in a row and seemingly falling too far behind in a spot for a place in the Champions League.
It did look as if United were getting their hopes of a spot in fourth right back on track when they put together a six-game winning run. However, a loss at home to Fulham two weeks ago and another defeat in the Manchester derby to the champions Manchester City means they are 11 points behind Aston Villa in fourth. Indeed, fifth place could still get a team Champions League football this season, but even then, Tottenham Hotspur are six points ahead of United and also boast of a game in hand.
United are also back in the minus of the goals for and against column, letting in 39 after Phil Foden scored twice in a 3-1 loss for the Red Devils at the Etihad, but Marcus Rashford's stunning finish from distance was also their 37th of the Premier League campaign. Regardless, what all but sums up United's season now is how they are within two points of West Ham United and have lost the same amount of games as 11th-placed Bournemouth, who themselves have won 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Everton also suffered another tough loss last time out, as the Hammers beat them 3-1 with Beto scoring in the second half for the Toffees. It has brought Everton back to within five points of relegation, despite having four of their 10 points added back on following the prediction in late 2023.
This loss also extended Everton's winless run to 10 games in the Premier League, a run which extends back to a mid-December win over fellow strugglers Burnley. The loss to West Ham at home last time out was also yet another defeat at home for the Toffees, with even sides like Luton Town winning at Goodison Park.
United are another team who have managed to take all three points off them on Merseyside with Alejandro Garnacho scoring that famous, stunning overhead kick inside three minutes before Rashford and Anthony Martial scored goals each in the second half.
