Manchester United face off against Sunderland in the Premier League this weekend, with Ruben Amorim's Reds in dire need of a win.
- Date: 04/10/2025
- Kick-off: 3:00pm
- Location: Old Trafford, Manchester
Manchester United enter this game in poor shape. The team are coming off the back of a 3-1 loss to Brentford, the latest in a line of shambolic results and/or performances. The Red Devils have now won two and lost three of their last five games in all competitions, and fears over the likely success of the "project" under Ruben Amorim are at boiling point.
They can at least draw faith from the fact they've won two out of three games at Old Trafford, with one win coming against Chelsea. Regardless, though, they come into this match under palpable pressure.
Sunderland, on the other hand, are looking very healthy, with three wins, two draws and one defeat from six games. The Black Cats have won two and drawn two of their last four games, with their most recent outing a 1-0 win away at Nottingham Forest. Crucially, that win was their first away win of the season, something that will give them immense confidence heading into this encounter.
Five of Manchester United's last six games in all competitions have seen both teams score, while Sunderland have only failed to score in two of their six games this season. There's plenty to suggest that this will be a highly competitive encounter, and one that should inspire goals, with the Red Devils conceding 12 goals in their last five games in all competitions.
Rubem Amorim has a rapidly dwindling amount of time to save his job, with pressure mounting amidst a string of underwhelming showings. They desperately need three points against Sunderland, and their decent home form stands them in good stead to avoid defeat, but a physical, highly technical and well-drilled Sunderland side will be more than confident about coming away from Old Trafford with a result.
