Ange Postecoglou is desperately searching for a much-needed first win as Nottingham Forest boss as they take on Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend.
- Date: 05/10/2025
- Kick-off: 2:00 pm
- Location: St James' Park, Newcastle
Newcastle currently sit 15th in the Premier League with one win, three draws and two losses from six games. The Magpies have performed well in difficult circumstances this season, and their performances arguably warrant more than six points. Their losses came against the two league title favourites in Liverpool and Arsenal, and both of those defeats were a product of last-gasp winners.
In the week, Newcastle delivered arguably their best performance of the season as they beat Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0 away from home. This game was the first time Eddie Howe started Nick Woltemade (who has three goals in his last four starts for the club), Anthony Gordon, and Anthony Elanga as a front three, and the Magpies looked excellent as a result.
Nottingham Forest come into this game in a sticky situation. After a messy start to the season behind the scenes, Forest are having a tough time under Ange Postecoglou, with the team still winless since he took charge. From six games in all competitions, the Reds have two draws and four defeats, which is well short of what they would've expected.
In the week, Forest were beaten 2-3 by Midtjylland in the Europa League, with the team booed off by fans at full-time. Forest are having very similar issues to what Spurs had under Postecoglou last season and look at sixes and sevens defensively, conceding an average of over two goals per game in their last six outings.
It's very hard to find any positives for Forest ahead of this game against Newcastle, particularly given they've lost all of their last four head-to-head meetings with the Magpies. The pressure on Postecoglou is palpable, and it's likely to keep growing.
