Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Prediction

The recent head-to-head meetings between the two teams, lead us to believe that Newcastle United can halt this little slip-up in form and record a victory against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

The Magpies have won the last three meetings between the two sides, but interestingly, neither side has kept a clean sheet in the last five meetings between the two teams. That being said, goals should be a custom between the two teams, with Over 2.5 goals scored in seven of the last eight matches involving Newcastle United and the last five involving Nottingham Forest.

Both teams have an array of talent on show, most notably in Alexander Isak and Chris Wood. Alexander Isak has scored 17 league goals, whereas Chris Wood goes one better with 18 scored.

This will be a close game on paper, with us favouring Newcastle United to record a 2-1 win.

Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Preview & Prediction

Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are both in excellent form this season, as they both meet at St.James Park with coveted places in Europe still up for grabs.

Date: 23/02/2025
Location: St.James’ Park, Newcastle.
Kick-Off: 2 pm

Newcastle United have enjoyed a fine season thus far, although the Magpies will be looking to secure a victory to steer the club back towards challenging for a potential UEFA Champions League place. The home side already have a cup final to look forward to, when they face Premier League leaders Liverpool at Wembley in March for the Carabao Cup. In the Premier League, Newcastle United are in seventh place, which would secure them qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League, but are only three points off Manchester City in fourth.

Nottingham Forest are having an excellent season themselves, with Nuno Espirito Santo guiding the side to third place in the Premier League, with 47 points gained from 25 matches played. A win against Newcastle United, could move them closer to Arsenal and narrow the gap to three points, should the Gunners drop points against West Ham United. A defeat would keep them in the top four, but the likes of Bournemouth could close the gap to a single point.

Where to watch

The game will be available to watch on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event.

Team News

Jamal Lascelles, Joelinton and Sven Botman are likely to be unavailable due to injury concerns at the weekend.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Carlos Miguel will both be unavailable for Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Form Guide

The recent meetings between the two sides will suggest that Newcastle United will have the psychological advantage in this fixture. The reverse meeting between the two meetings resulted in a 3-1 win for Newcastle United, with goals from Alexander Isak, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes securing the win for the Magpies.

Newcastle United are coming into this game having won three of their previous five games in all competitions. However, in their most recent league game, the Magpies suffered an embarrassing away loss to current Premier League Champions Manchester City (4-0). In the league though, the home side will need to improve their form overall with only two wins from their last five league matches.

At home however, Newcastle United have been assured in recent weeks, keeping three clean sheets in their last five games at St.James’ Park. Newcastle United have won three of their last five home games, against the likes of Wolves (3-0), Aston Villa (3-0) and Aston Villa (4-0).

Nottingham Forest come into this game, with three wins from their previous five games in all competitions, following their 2-1 defeat away at Fulham in their last Premier League game. In the Premier League, the Reds have won only twice in their last five games, securing those victories against Southampton (3-2) and Brighton & Hove Albion (7-0).

Nottingham Forest have superb away form heading into this game, with the visitors having won four of their last six league games on their travels. Nottingham Forest have beaten the likes of Manchester United (2-3), Brentford (0-2), Everton (0-2) and Wolves (0-2).
